Re: Dayton 2" Dome Midrange
its hooked up to the lyra x-over, of which it is a part. so it should have all of the bass filtered out, however its just hooked up with scrap wire bent onto the terminals/x over it could be that, ive tried to hold it to isolate the bass from rattling around my connections. 95% of the time it sounds great, so im not convinced its bad.

Re: Dayton 2" Dome Midrange
I found this review for the product. THis may help
Problems at first, but it sounds fine now.

I wanted to build a speaker project with a dome midrange driver; the project I chose uses the DC50F-8. When I first received this driver I ran a signal through it and heard a distorted buzzing sound. I read that this may happen, but after 48 hours of break-in, the buzzing sound was still present. I called P.E. support and they recommended rotating the faceplate by 120 degrees, which unfortunately did not solve the problem.
After about a week frustration and disappointment I realized the cause of the problem; the voice coil leads on the front of the dome were making contact with the faceplate! I removed the faceplate and ran signal through the driver and it sounded fine. After replacing the faceplate I used a toothpick to reshape the leads and was finally able to continue with Wayne J's Lyra project.

Re: Dayton 2" Dome Midrange
Something is rubbing in the gap. Seems to be a common problem with mid domes. If it's new (and hasn't been overloaded) you should exchange it.
A "blown" mid dome will do this also - the coil wire partially separates from the former because of overheating. And produces some serious screech over very narrow frequency ranges, just like something stuck in the gap. BTDT.
Most textile dome mids, including this one will tolerate low power full range operation (100 mW or less) on the test bench.
