Default O.T. Decent GPS for around $100?

My daughter wants (needs) a talking GPS, is it possible to get a decent model for around $100? I know nothing about them and dont have a clue what to look for. I have never used one, I just drive around for hours until luck gets me to my destination. I would spend more but she has already taken me for a new set of tires and a new battery in the last month!
    Thanks! Aaron

I borrowed a car that had one of the first GPS factory option units, the speaker should have been in the back seat blurting out in my wife's voice.

This seems to be as cheap as they get: http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-n%C3%BC...dp/B000BKJZ9Q/

They all track satellites OK, but usually the big differences are the screen size and the Points of Interest (POI) databases that help you find stores or whatever. Garmin is easy to use and has a good POI database, but you don't get free map and POI updates, so if you live in an area where things change alot it might not be the best. The Magellans have a good POI database. The really compact units are usually cheaper and more convenient, but the sound can be crappy because of the size of the speaker.

My preference is to use one of the new cell phones that has GPS built in. My wife has that in her Moto Z9 phone, and it works great. ATT charges $10/month for the service. The POI database gets loaded from the network, so it's always up to data. I installed a bluetooth radio for her that plays the audio through the car speakers, so the only limitation of this approach is the screen size. Also, you will need to have a dashboard mount to get a good view of the satellites through the windshield.

Buy.com has a refurbished TomTom one for about 90 bucks:

Never had the need for a GPS myself, but that looks like a deal to me.

    Aaron,

I have a Tom Tom One XL that I got from Tiger Direct as a refurb. I have had good luck with it. I do a lot of traveling and it has done pretty good. The map updates do cost but I haven't updated mine for some time and hasn't caused me any problems. I spent $89 on it. It has a 4.3 inch screen which makes it easy to see. It also has the ability to download user updated maps for free and has bluetooth for handsfree cell phone use.

It does pick up satellites a bit faster than some of the other brands I have used.

    HTH,
