Default Help me identify this old Sony power amp!

Back in the mid 80s, there was this big Sony power amp in use at my high school auditorium, for the PA sound system. It looked like a home product but was obviously powerful enough for basic PA tasks. Out of curiousity, I'd like to identify the thing! Here is what I remember of it :

    - Power amp design, with nothing but a power ON/OFF switch on the front panel. The power button was rectangular and may have had some green illumination when switched ON.

    - Case color was kinda dark, glossy grey

    - Size about that of a rack mount unit, maybe 4 RU high

    - RCA input connectors

    - Two visible power transformers each enclosed in some kind of black sheet metal casing, separated from the main top casing, vaguely ressembling McIntosh exposed power amp's trannies.

    - No fan

    Thanks!

Since we cannot know all that there is to be known about anything, we ought to know a little about everything.

Hello Phil! If you have it in electronic form, yeah sure! You may still have my e-mail on hand from a previous discussion!

I actually work for the same school system my high school was/is part of. I will place a few phone call and try to find if the unit I saw and used back in 1985 is still in existance somewhere in a school. The thing made a strong impression then and I'd be curious to listen to it!

Anyone know the output power of the amp? I'd guess about 150 watts per channel?

Yes, the 2 channel equipment from their ES line and Esprit line were some of the best solid state equipment ever built IMO.

Building it big and playing it loud! Because we all know size really does matter, and a little over compensation never hurt anyone.
