Re: Good news for us Canucks
Awesome! That's cool. I have't ordered from PE in a while because shipping has gone up (to canada) and the exchange rate is now super bad (again). There's a few things I'm interested in. Wonder when they will get some stock.
Now all solen needs to do is fix their terrible site.
I hate that they use JS for their product links. Why in the world do they use javascript to lauch each product page (well... probably for tracking, but there are other ways to do that)? It means I can't easily open a bunch of products in tabs to compare them. That's the way I shop on most sites.
The search hasn't worked in a long time. That's a major pita (I get around it by using google with site:solen.ca). Their add product to cart has two unlabelled buttons and only the left one seems to do something??
Solen has been around a long time but their website doesn't exactly instill confidence when ordering from them.

Re: Good news for us Canucks
That is great news. The currency exchange and the higher shipping costs pretty much doubles any purchase cost on small orders from PE and others. I just spent a small fortune to get a gallon of Heat Lock glue from veneersupplies.com.

Re: Good news for us Canucks
Now if they would carry cabinets we would be getting somewhere.

Re: Good news for us Canucks
Wish they would carry tang band as well. Lots of cool FR speakers and some cool little subs.
Peerless makes some 6.5" subs.. but I think that is the only small sub option. With dayton being carried they will have more 4ohm (afforable) subs available.
I'm stoked on the dayton tweeters being available. I wanted some nd20s to play with and was going to make an order from solen soon anyhow.. now it'll get held off until they have dayton stock.

Anyone from the Toronto area?

Re: Good news for us Canucks
Good to see that Solen is carrying this fine range of drivers.
I just got dinged a $20 brokerage FEE on top of $20 shipping for $18 worth of product from PE.

I've already got my first order ready, just waiting for the Dayton drivers to get in. I'll still have to get my Tang Band stuff from PE though... Maybe one day. I've also noticed that the XO parts prices seem reasonable.
Anyone else here from Alberta?
Cheers!

I bet if you ask Chris that he will bring them for you. Give it a try.
I lived in Red Deer for about 10 years.

You shipped UPS didn't you? USPS or nothing for me when shipping from the US. No brokerage, efficient, excellent cost, gets transferred to my local friendly Canada post workers. Nothing to complain about.
I've had a couple bad experiences with UPS. At least they are fairly up front about the brokerage fees now.

Re: Good news for us Canucks
I choose USPS when given the option but there are many times when the option is not there, either because the seller uses a courier exclusively or when the item must go freight because of size or weight.

Yes UPS.The shipping schedule said anything under $20 would not have brokerage fees but when the exchange rate was factored in it put me over the minimum.I will use USPS from now on.

When a retailer states they use a specific courier it is sometimes worth contacting to verify that is all they will send by. E.g. I contacted an online retailer that mainly deals with car audio (let's call them "tweeters and such") because the order form only lists UPS for shipment to Canada. They stated that if I place an order I can contact them with the order number and have them switch it to usps and they'd adjust the charges accordingly (as it would cost a bit more).
A lot of retailers that use ups aren't aware of the brokerage issue. They only see how much it costs to leave their premises on a brown truck. Ostensibly they are offering their customers the lowest shipping price available by going with UPS (generally the rate for the same estimated time via ups is cheaper than usps). In reality once you factor in all costs beyond the upfront shipping cost UPS ends up costing a lot more.

Go
this is fantastic! i've been working aroung PE products for the last year just because of the extra costs to get it here. if only tang band and usher showed up, we'd be flying.

Isn't it great we are living under a free trade agreement?

What's that have to do with brokerage fees? You don't pay any duty if the item was made in N.A., but brokerage has nothing to do with that. Of course not make speakers are actually constructed in north america.

Re: Good news for us Canucks
Hey, that is good news. Now like others mentioned, hopefully they can fix the site and get some cabinets.

Re: Good news for us Canucks
The bad news is that the ETA for actual Dayton inventory is "a few weeks", so in the short term at least, it's still PE+USPS for Dayton stuff.
And I must concur, Solen's site would benefit from something of a face lift.

You should have seen it a couple years ago! Clicking on a listed brand would download an ASCII spec list and you had to download another, seperate ASCII file to have the price list!
Then you could phone them to place an order!
