Default Where to put the port?

This box is 2 cu. ft. with a port size of 3'' W x 4'' L. Where should I put the port?

If the cab's going to have feet I'd put it on the bottom.

I thought of putting it on the bottom and that is my prefered but I'm concerned about the air from the woofer blowing across the port.

if you factored in an elbow and faced it towards the back you could do it. probly not ideal though

If the enclosure is continuous from the woofs to up behind the tweet, I would mount it rear firing behind the tweeter.

Port implementations (in my opinion) are:

50% good port (flared both ends best)
    25% cosmetics
    25% space limitations

If the port is well designed, you could have it coming out of just about any face of the enclosure you would like. I've done both front and rear firing, and have listened to many with down-firing ports (like Jim and Curt's Statement series). In my most recent design, the port exited on a 45-deg face out the back/side quarter. All work well. I've not seen one out the top - go ahead, be the first...

Here you go, out the top.

Need to keep it covered when not in use so stuff does not collect inside the cabinet.

Another option is to bring the port out the bottom into a shallow, lets say 4" chamber which has lots of 1/2" x 3" vertical slits along the two sides and back; then adjust the tuning experimentally to compensate.

I haven't tried it yet, but plan to on a tower pretty soon.

Or, on these, I used a "cage" of hardware screen (1/4" holes) around the bottom, so if, say, a "Hotwheels" accidentally falls in there, I can just tip it over to get it out.

One reason for bottom mounting is that out of bandwidth noise is filtered.
