See LouC's acclaimed project the Cryolites:

The 4 ohm version of the RS180 should be capable of working with the Neo3 at well.

Re: BG Neo3-PDRW and RS180-4 compatibility?
I think they would work. There is an existing design, the Cryolites, that uses the RS180S-8 and the Neo3PDR. Using the 4 ohm version of the RS180 would require a new crossover, which would only be worth the effort if you really need the extra sensitivity or for some reason really need low impedance.

Thanks the Cryolite is just what I was looking for! Any thoughts on the design.

Obviously, you're new here. Lou's work is VERY good and I'd trust any one of his speaker designs. Especially since I'm pretty sure a lot of people have built the Cryolite.

The cryolites are one of his more highly regarded designs. I built the Schticks and they were excellent. I would love to hear the cryolites.

It is a very nice design. I have a pair in my bedroom system. They sounds great and have very good low end. I mostly listen to them 2ch direct and only switch to 2.1 when playing loud or for movies.
Scott (poster above) has a nice design using the Neo3-pdr and the RS150 that I am getting ready to make. He is too modest to mention his own well-regarded efforts ;-). It would be another very nice choice and using a smaller box (a plus depending on your usage plans).

Best regards, Andy.

I will say it is one of the best "large-bookshelf/stand-mounted" speakers I have had the pleasure of listening to. Smooth/balanced sound, with top-octave air, and great bass with extension. You really can't go wrong with this one!

Thanks for the endorsements...
I know I've answered a lot of questions about them. The originals are somewhere in San Jose as demo boxes for an outfit selling integrated home entertainment "servers".
They are a "tweener" size, a bit large for bookshelves. Probably a stand mount for most people. Probably my best 2 way design. In head to head, I'd choose the Shticks over the Cryolites.
Thanks Andy, Curt, Don, Wolf for the endorsements. 2008 has been the year from hell for me. Nice to know I have a few cyber friends out there...

Not a problem, Lou! Hope 2009 is better for you.
Have a happy new year,

Lou,
I've never heard the Cryolites, but reading your work on them and other Neo3 projects was a source of inspiration for my RS150-based design. I too hope 2009 brings better things your way.
