Default quick question about volume control

I have been using cheap potentiometers to balance my highs /mids but the one controlling my mids just burned out... turns out they are only designed to handle .25 watts of power (as opposed to the 60W RMS I have been running through them)

Unfortunately, I have been using 4 ohm speakers, and when I looked on the internet, I couldn't find any 4 ohm L-pads or pots rated to handle this much power...

so my question is this: could I just use a 8 ohm L-pad? or is there another way to balance out the speaker volumes?

from what I have read, it seems that l-pads are essentially just potentiometers, so does it even matter what impedance it's made for?
