Default Drop in replacement for RSS390HF

Ive already have a sealed box built. 22" cube that's approx. 4.4cf. I sold my RSS390HF and am looking for a different driver that can handle more power at or below 20hz. I'm using the Ep2500 and a FBQ2496 for EQ.

I modeled using WinISD Beta the Acoustic Elegance AV15-H which has a power rating of 1000w plus and a Xmax of 23mm. My only problem is the Q for this size box is 0.43. What can I expect with a low Q as far as performance is concerned?

Ive also modeled the SDX15 in this same size sealed box and get a Q of 0.64 which seems better. The SDX15 has more Xmax at 30mm and power handling is the same. Cost for each driver is about the same.

I know looks of the driver should not play much into decision making, but the AV15 will look real nice in my black box with the polished AL cone.

Heres the plot with the AV15 in green, SDX15 in yellow.
    AV15 Q=0.43, 23mm Xmax
    SDX15 Q=0.64, 30mm Xmax.

I just don't think being sealed and pushing the gain, the AV15 will not exceed Xmax. What will a low Q do or not do? Any comments is very much appreciated.
    Cheers,
    Andy

Get not only the sub, but a pair of Passive Radiators from AE. That'll extend the low end.

But EQ boost with a low Q setup is not a bad way to go, if you have the power needed.

    Pete,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
Id love to get a pair of PR's to add to this setup. Unfortunately, this will have to come at a later time. Sometimes working on a budget really sucks. Im actually hoping when the day comes, that I can add the PR's to my box thats currently built. Might be kinda hard, but it may work.

So are you saying the 2496 can adjust that low Q on the AV15? I'm just now getting all this equipment together and just waiting on a driver decision to get things going. So I will be learning the 2496 very soon. The Ep2500 will have plenty of power to boost. So I'm not worried about that.

Any kind of parametric EQ will do the job of shaping the response you're looking to achieve.

What you may find however, is that the AV15 alone in that box, in your room, may be all you need to get very satisfying levels of low end, even without EQ. I would assume that you're going to cross these over well below 100Hz. Open up WinISD again and add a low pass filter to see what the overall shape of the response looks like. 4th order at 60Hz would be a good start. Then realize that you're going to get some lift due to room effects. The larger the room, the lower in frequency they'll begin to occur, and the effect will rise at 12dB/octave, and at some point below 20Hz most likely flatten out due to openings in the room.

Yes, Im planning on crossing at 60-80hz. Im also not planning on setting a cutout on the 2496. It will only go down to 20hz unfortunately. But, I will be careful when first firing things up when checking what it can and cant do.

Once I figure out how to use the low filter feature so it shows up on my plot, that will be nice. The Beta version only has a 1st and 2nd order low pass. But, im picking up what your putting down Pete. I just needed an opinion from people that knows more than me. Sounds like the AV15 will work out.

    Thanks again Pete!

Yea, I looked at those but stuff over 300 bucks is where I have to draw a line. Thanks for the suggestions tho!

I'm running a pair of SDX15's each in a 4.2 cu ft box and am very happy with levels. Power is from an EP-2500 through a BFD.
