Any active crossovers with a "bypass" switch?
I'd like to add a sub to my SR71's... therefore I'd like to highpass the SR71's... therefore I need an active crossover... easy enough...
But here's the catch: there are going to be times when using the sub is not an option (WAF factor)...
So I'm hoping that there might be an active crossover out there that has a "bypass" switch that would allow me to easily turn off the high pass filter to the SR71's, and simply run them full range, without the sub... it doesn't have to necessarily cut the signal to the sub when it does this, as turning off the sub is easy enough.
Are there any active crossovers that do this?
And even if there aren't any active crossovers that do this, which sub-$200 active crossovers would you guys recommend? I have a cheapo Reckhorn F1 already, but it crackles a bit when you jiggle one of the RCA's, and generally makes me uneasy... so I'm looking to replace it.
Thanks

I haven't seen one with a bypass switch but a bunch of them have mute switches on the outputs like this Samson S3 http://www.samsontech.com/products/r...way_manual.pdf. You would still have to turn the Low-to-Mid crossover control to its lowest frequency setting when you were not using the sub output. That's what I do on my dbx crossover.

How do you like the dbx? I was considering getting the dbx 223.
Is that Samson S3 a good one?

The dbx-223 is the only unit I've owned so far (2 years). It's output is very quiet, the controls have stayed noise free and it has held up to general abuse in my garage without being rack mounted. It doesn't have a lot of features like the Samson but it seems like a reliable little work horse. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that the dbx low-to-mid crossover only goes down to 45Hz; don't know if this would be an issue for you.
On the S3 they claim to go to 18Hz. One thing that concerns me about the S3, however, is that their thechnical specifications are pretty sparse; they don't even provide a THD number.

Re: Any active crossovers with a "bypass" switch?
Thanks... 45 hz is plenty low, so it sounds like it would work well for me.
There are a bunch of Rane AC 22's on ebay, but they only go as low as 70, so I'll probably avoid those... I've gotten recommendations of 60 hz as a likely crossover point for the SR71's.

Also forgot to mention that the dbx does not have mute switches for its outputs but it does have individual output gain controls which have an off setting. So there would be several knobs to turn whenever you wanted to reconfigure your system, but that could be a positive feature

that's really popular for subwoofer duty and it's very cheap too. Goes down to 44hz so it the same as the DBX. I heard this unit feeding a set of 15" revel subwoofers, sounded great.
