New MacBook on the way.
My iBook G4 laptop was recently severely damaged. It still works, but no display unless you hook it up to an external monitor. It's fixable, but it will take some time and money. Darn!
Fortunately for me I do periodic backups and won't lose anything important. Actually I'll lose a little something (see below).
I couldn't stand not having a working computer, so I went and ordered one of those rufurbished units that APPLE sells. They give the same warranty/guarantee as with a new computer.
It seemed like a good idea saving 28 percent!
I borrowed an older DELL laptop with XP to get me by during the interim. Yeach!
My new MacBook should be arriving this afternoon. Yeah!
It will come preloaded with the newest OSX (Leopard 10.5).
I will not be able to run any of my older OS9 applications because APPLE stopped support for the "Classic" environment with the previous version of OSX (Tiger 10.4)

Re: New MacBook on the way.
Ya might want to check out Sheep Saver which emulates a Classic environment under Leopard. Works decently well in my limited tests which is playing Isle Wars. Don't know how it will work for what you have ran under Classic in the past but it might be worth an evaluation.

Thanks, I'll look into it.
I have a few "astronomy" type of apps that I'd like to keep. Stars planets and such.

Yeah, I've got a few favorite astronomy apps I wish I could take out in the field with me. Just doesn't make it too easy to lug my old 7600 out. I just went with Starry Night and never looked back too much.

I have a 17" MacBook G4 with a shot MB. The display should still be good...
PM me if you're interested.

I have app discs from ORION telescopes and MEADE too, not to mention whatever else I have downloaded. I guess that I'll have to go through all my software, magazines and books.
Time to clean house. I have stuff going back to Panther. (10.3)

Hal
Which model is it exactly? If it's one I can work with I'd be interested in it.

Re: New MacBook on the way.
Shawn,
It's a Model A1085, Powerbook G4, 17",1.5 GHz, 512Mhz ram, 80G, Super Drive, BT, APX, Backlit KB Bluetooth capable. I think it's the Titanium MB, But that's shot. The HD also isn't available.

Isn't available? Did you remove the Hard Drive?
Have you checked out any of the solid state hard drives that are now available? They are faster, but don't actually use less power.
I went to Tom's Hardware and read the reviews on solid state hard drives. Apparently these new solid state drives are "on" all the time, no idle or power down, so they actually use more power than the usual hard drive. Need to give it a few generations before they get it right. The prices are getting better all the time.

The computer belongs to my son, He wanted me to remove the hard drive for him as he has a use for it. So this is basically a skeleton.
I asked him what he going to do with the carcass and he was going to put it on Ebay for parts...
