    Default RB MTM's *Pics*

Well here they are. Not completely finished yet, but at this point I'm in no hurry. I like what I'm hearing, they sound good. Plenty of bass for a 5 1/4" woofer. The MCA2258 bi-amplifier is a good option for this set-up, XO at 3000hz, L/R 4th order. Works very well IMO. Cabinets are 1.0cuft. with a 3" x 6" port, tuned to 46hz. The towers will stand 42" tall after I add the bases. Bi-amps are located in the bottom compartment.

    Enjoy

What brand of black paint did you use? Semigloss, satin? I'm still trying to figure out what I want for my baffles, and I like the looks of those!

Thanks Deewan, I'm not using the stock XO. The MCA2258 bi-amplifier has a active L/R-4 set at 3khz and can handle 4ohm loads.

Thanks Green, I really haven't considered a finish for these yet, maybe an oak this time.

The baffles are Daytons MD75 (B-REX) prefinished blank baffles in satin black. I really like the finish on these baffles. It saves me time plus I don't think I could achieve as good of a finish without alot of time and effort.

I like this design so far. I plan on running a sub with these today just to get the lower octaves. I may have to HP these at 80hz to give the woofers better power handling and better intergration. We'll see.

danklugherz, Alot of people will flock to this as they are beautiful..... Using the amps crossover does that do something better for the low bsc ? I've listened to mine (sealed crossed at 80hz) for a couple of days now and i'm just not feeling it..... I've built CurtC's TriTrix MT and JedK's F4 (tangband W4 1337) Fullrange and they both sound way better........

I'll have to attempt yours if thats alright? If so can you throw out some drawings and dimensions ? How are you connecting the speakers to the amp?
You know all the little things that add up ?

    Anyway very refreshing design....................

The RB stock XO would require some mod. to work with this MTM. You could still use a sealed or vented placed vertical for a CC. I'm hoping someone would be willing to take a stab modding the stock XO sometime for an MTM. I'm not an expert at XO design. I don't have any measuring system yet, but hope to soon.

    John,
The MCA2258 bi-amp has gain adjustments for tweeter and woofer so bcs isn't a problem. These are ported in a 1.0cuft compartment with a 3"x6" port tuned to 46hz. Tower dims. are 40.5" H x 8" W x 13" D, with a 1-1/2" base making them 42" tall. There's a divider at 25" down from the top (inside) and (3) 1" dowel braces centered down the middle evenly spaced. Driver spacing is 5" and the tweeter is offset 3/4". The woofers are surface mounted and the tweeters are recessed. The front and rear baffles are removable. The inside is lined with 1" foam and the port is recessed 1/4" into the back panel and glued with silicone, the outside has a 1/2" round-over. Woofers are wired in parallel for 4.9 ohms. The amps have speaker wires already on them so wiring isn't a problem. I hope this explains some of your requests, if you have anymore questions feel free to PM me.

i think i will build another set of rb kits and then attempt a mtm with a stock x-over and see how it sounds. if it sounds bad or i get a offer to test it ,maybe i could drop it off. i go across iowa every week and go to ohio, indiana, il, mich. i get arround. any offers?

by the way, would it make since to use vented for the mains and sealed for the rear? only thinking that the demand is not as high for the surround and the sealed are a little smaller. would sealed or vented be best for first attemp at mtm center?

I purchased (2) kits. I have extra tweeters for another project and I can always rebuild them into the original designs in the future.

thanks, btw, in my situation, how would i hook the woofers up to maintain an 8 ohm load? double the voulume of the box? .5 sealed?

There's no way to maintain an 8 ohm load. The drivers are 8 ohm nominal, so two in parallel will be 4 ohms and two in series will be 16 ohms. The stock crossovers will not work with a pair of the woofers wired in either of these configurations.
