Default First posted build. The Great White Nope.

Thought I would put this out there for anyone to look at. This is my 6th go around at a build some of them turned out ok and some did not.

They will be the new Vifa DQ25 tweeter and the Fountek 6.5" woofs. The boxes are built but not done. .5 cubic ft., slotted port that is about .4" x7.5"x 6.25". Crossed at about 2K, f3 about 48. Boxes are made to look like Paul Carmondy's Classix; thanks Paul. Will be my first try with sims.; thanks to Jeff b., Roman, and people on tec talk. Drivers purchased form Zaph so thanks to him for that and the specs. I'll take credit for the mistakes made.

Pictures to come tomarrow of the Great White Nope in progress.

I expect these will be cost-effective, decent sounding speakers. If you bought the Fountek from Zaph, its measured responses would be exactly the same as Zaph had posted. Nice! The DQ25's are very consistent tweeters according to Zaph, too. Considering the drivers' distortion profile, I'd shoot for 1.9 kHz acoustic LR4. If you trace the Fountek's SPL response, post it here. I think I can help you with your sims. What's the baffle size and driver positions?

Thanks for the comments everyone. Yep, it is Baltic Birch.

Jay, thanks for the offer and I'll get that information posted this comming week for you. I'll have to learn how to run the spl trace and how to post it here.

    More pictures to come.
    Thank you.

    Nice look

Actually, that seems like an interesting choice of drivers. No one has used the Fountek yet, so it'll be interested to see how well it behaves.

The cross over is in the design phaze yet so I have not gave these drivers a try. I might bring them to a friend who has a active setup and mess around that way for a quick listen.

In my did not double check the tweeter off set and I should have shifted it over alittle more to one side. It is 2.5" from the top, 4" from one side, and 5" from the other side. That multiple of 2.5" and 5" was an oversite I made.

Woofer is 7.5" from the top, 4.5 form sides, and 5.5 from the very bottom. C-C is 6".

Spl and impedance trace to come.

    Thanks Mark.

So I traced the imp. and fr's for the Vifa DQ25 and the Fountek 168 and saved them to my computer. So how do I post them here on tec talk? I thought I could just hit the attachments button up top but no.

I was able to import them to Jeffs crossover software and apply the crossover parts with L-pad and notch for the woofer. If anyone would like to give me a quick pointer that would be helpfull. It is new to me.
    Thanks

Package them into a .zip file and then upload them.

I already have DQ25 files. Looking at your frd and zma files of the Fountek, you must have done something wrong when tracing them. Both frequency response and impedance curves are way different from Zaph's or manufacturer's measurements.

Ok, I'll look into it. I was going to trace the kevlar Usher I sent him for testing and may have done that one in by mistake.

I'll try to go back and delete the files up top.

I upped the number of plot points form 40 to 60; maybe that will have something to do with my bad files.

    So I'll try again.

    Thanks Jay!

Below is what I would do with this driver combination. This is a result of my usual full modeling that includes baffle step loss/diffraction and box modeling. Note that an LCR notch filter is used in the woofer section as a means of BSC. I found that without using this notch filter it is difficult to obtain a right amount of BSC and at the same time achieve 1.8 k to 2.0 kHz xover point.
