Default T-line spreadsheet. Anyone use this?

I was going through Martin King's site last night to read more on transmission lines and saw a link for an Excel sheet. It's dated 3/3/09 so either it has been recently updated or it's completely new. I just don't recall seeing it before. I guess what I'm getting at is this; If you have used this relatively simple sheet to help design a TL project, how well did your project turn out and how accurate were the results of Mr. Webb's sheet?

This might be what I'm looking for when it comes to doing some quick and dirty TL modeling. Here's a link to what I'm talking about.

    I made the sheet!
It will give the same results as Martin’s tables. You should use the same adjustments that he recommends for adjusting Fs based on Qts. I am glad someone saw it. I posted when it was added, but it doesn’t look like many people saw it.

Very cool! Thanks a lot, Keith. I must have missed the post you made about the sheet originally or I would have been on it immediately. If it gets me in the ballpark I can go from there. I just like having a simple and highly functional tool like this which I can use on both my Macs and my Gateway laptop. Thanks for creating it.

    Oh ya this might help.

When arriving at the final design for my current project I plugged in the parameters and got the dimensions, then Paul put those dimensions into the mathcad sheets and posted the results. The dimensions I posted were scaled down from what the tables gave, but of course the length wasn’t changed. I was trying to get as much info as possible for refining the sheet and Paul helped allot, and Curt left my visitor messages up, so look there too.
    Thanks'

Thumbs up Re: T-line spreadsheet. Anyone use this?

I can speak as a third party user.

It's a very good basic tool. I haven't worked the math backwards but I've been able to verify the operation by successfully "proving" some existing designs.

I said "basic" because it only applies to one type of TL, the tapered quarter-wave pipe (TQWP) and this is a great. But there are variations, such as mass loading, that would be nice to have.

You definitely get much more than what you pay for and worth having in your arsenal. Thanks Tex.

I checked it out right away. When I see something about transmission lines I like to read about it. I'll be using it in the future.

    Thanks Texan.

I have this calculator built into my Passive Crossover Designer. Would this benefit your spreadsheet?

Thanks for all the good responses!

    Jeff,
Thank you for your offer. I think for now I would like to leave the sheet as minimalist as possible. That was my most important goal. I am hoping that anyone who begins to take a more in depth look at this will use other tools in conjunction with the simple spreadsheet. I am sure that you will know better than most that your own version of a spreadsheet tool has many many features that don’t make it on to the final cut.

    Everyone,
I am hoping that by leaving a complete fully functional sheet at the end that anyone who desires features beyond what is shown can add their own. I would recommend that every one set up their own sheet at the end and put in and receive their information there, and then add other calculations specific to their design. After that just move the sheet to the front and you can have a version tailored specifically to your project.

You are all welcome to make comments and requests for improvements to the sheet.

One thing that I would like to point out is that the sheet only gives the answer that the tables give, and that it is possible to reduce the cross section and still get good results, I wanted to include some type of scaling factor to make compromises in enclosure volume. Martin was not as excited about the idea, and so it was left at that. I do not currently have the ability to add this feature.
    Thanks'
