Many of us have very tolerant wives. Some of us don't. I hereby invite you all to throw up some pictures of your system with the emphasis being on just how far your wife will let you go to accomodate your speaker building addiction. This may also be a good way for those of you who are currently trying to convince your wives to allow those great big towers you have been wanting to build by showing them just how bad it could really be!
Is that your place? It looks like Curts stuff but with a different rug.
Nope, that is my place. Curt is one up on me as he has a dedicated listening room in his basement and my basement has to play double duty for Home theater and listening area. We take all the measurements at his place, and then do the voicing in his basement as his room is way better for it than mine.
Nice setup. And here I am with one set of speakers (that do rock though). I will have to put up some pics of how tolerant my wife is when I have a few minutes.
I do need more speakers, but I do not have any room My wife just shakes her head when she looks at it. The kids love it though. My daughter loves to dance, and my son likes to chase her around so it all works out in the end.
My wife is way tolerant. But I try to bank WAF points by not pushing the limits very often. The thing she likes least is MDF dust drifting on to her car. Go figure.
You win, but this is in the main front room if that is any consolation. I just completed the two amps on either side of the bookshelfs and my new three ways are not finished yet (Hence the sweet speaker stands)
Those are some sweet amps! Nicely done. I have been giving some thought to building my own Tube Amp...I really like my Jolida, but as you know, it sure is fun to make your own!
There are no winners in this competition, just those who are further down the path of addiction!
Thanks! I haven't even played them for more than a few hours, so there is not much to say about the sound yet.
They definitely take a single pair of KT88s to the next level!! It solves any efficiency issues you may have when using a tube amp.
I am going to trim them in walnut and maple sooner or later. I'm also working on those speakers I emailed you for construction advice on a few months/maybe a year ago. I'm using solid 1" Austrailian Blonde lacewood with Mahogany accents for the bass cabinets and a 2" thick solid mahogany baffle using the Usher 8848P open baffle. Should be very nice paired up with these amps.
I'll post some more pictures of these amps when I get them completed. Right now the woodwork is embarassing.
Love the Accuton system. Is that going to Iowa this fall?
John[/QUOTE]
I brought that to Iowa 2 years ago. That was the year you brought the truncated pyramid active setup...scanspeaks I believe? I don't think I will try to haul it out again, as I plan on doing something else for my entry. I can't wait to see what you show up with this year! Just remember...to truly be Pastuk about it, you have to have glue or silicone that is still wet!!!!
OK, I didn't remember that being all Accuton. It would be nice to sit in the sweet spot for a listen with those. That's the problem I have with judging ,I have no idea what they really sound like without being front and center.
AFA this fall, I sold my line arrays and have orderd the esl panels and commissioned the cnc for for the line source aluminum baffles for my poor mans Martin Logan Statement with a twist. So hopefully I'll actually get a chance to listen to them before the night before the event.

The tweeters are Hiq's, but the mid and bass are Accuton. I cannot wait to see/hear some aluminum baffle action! I would like to do another over the top build, but I made a deal with my wife that I would sell off a couple of pairs of speakers before I do that, so I will need to get after that....it's just darn hard to let my babies go out into the world!

Pretty darn tolerant . . .
The key is I tell her I'm going to build some big speakers, and let her pick from some designs I make. That way she's involved. She appreciates the sound that only big speakers can make, and that doesn't hurt either.
Hey, since this is about wive's tolerance, why am I the only one to show a wife modeling a system? You chauvinists!!!!
And I know what you mean Wayne, it's hard to let them go. But these bad boys with their active 12" downfiring subs are only a short drive to my brother's house, so I can hear them any time I want.

I don't know that I would characterize my wife as tolerant or intolerant when it comes to a setting up a sytem in the house. She is into it as much as I am. However, when it comes to garage space for her car, well, that's different
Since we moved two years ago, we have nothing but a small amp and yard sale speakers to listen to, and her patience is wearing thin. I sold the two-ways so I don't have any speakers yet to prompt me to set up the old system. I'm currently remodeling an entertainment center and a small workroom, so new speakers will have to wait.
This is the system we had setup in our previous house. The subs are 12" flue tile and weigh about 100lb each. They looked a little gaudy, but she liked 'em.
+1 on building speakers in the house. I get away with gluing, sanding, cutting out ports, terminals and driver cut outs. Plus I get away with leaving boxes unpainted for an undetermined number of month . Don't worry though Wolf, I'll finish your Canvas design (with paint) before it replaces my current 3-ways . I took the pics quick so they are a little out of focus.
With a hobby like this, it's good to have support.
