Default Charging B&B 7 AH 12V SLA Battery?

Is it possible to charge this battery http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001XE11K with this laptop cord http://www.discountelectronics.com/i...ct_detail&p=58. If so can I get a plug like what is on the back of a laptop that could be mounted into wood?
I would like to be able to charge this battery with ac or dc current using my laptop cord.
    Thanks Dave

I've got a 5aH 12v SLA that I charge with an old (55 yr old?) Sears car battery charger. All I know is that you have to limit current to something like 1A and typically (after a couple hrs) the current will drop to maybe 1/10th that as the voltage tops.

    Hey Dave,

You're talking about using your existing laptop cord, yes?

I don't think it will as the output of a laptop adapter is 12V, whereas to charge the battery you need 13.5V. Any regulated 13.5V supply that provides at least 2 AMPs should do it.

Yea, that's what I was thinking. It would be nice not to have to access the battery to charge it, also I would like to be able to plug it in to ac or dc.

I have a couple of car chargers that I could use. I was in hopes of only needing a cord to charge with. My laptop cord has two ends one for ac current and one that plugs into a 12v car outlet.

    Dave,

I picked up a wall wart at a thrift store that was 13.5V and 1.5A that works well with my 12V 5Ah battery. I mounted this adapter on a panel on the outside of my box. Works great for me.

Tried googling 13.5 V wall wart. Lots of forums talking about them but can't find one. Thought you misspelled Walmart at first.

I just meant a simple 13.5V DC power supply. Something like this but with a little more amperage.

I already had my adapter in hand and went to the thrift store and searched through a box of power supplies until I found one with the right specs that fit my 2mm adapter. I think mine says Homedics on it. Not sure what it went to.

    Good luck,

that battery does not need what you say. 2 amp charger. This is the perfect charger.

This is exactly what you want for that battery it does it all auto matic.

I used to own a red wine audio high end version of a sonic t amp. It came with a built in battery and used this charger. It also used this charger for its out board battery which is the exact battery you mention. Just buy this and a piece of zip cord attach two quick fasters for the battery and 2 spades for the charger . real easy

Here are 2 shots of it. It is about 2.3 by 2.3 by 3 inches . I used two ring terminals to hook it up on the charger end. fast connects on the batt end. It is using 18 gauge speaker wire but 2 of them for each terminal so that is really like 15 gauge . see thumbnails. please ignore the brown cord that is for the lamp. LOL

I didn't realize it had a plug on the back. I have the adapter DaveH linked to http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=090-488. If I put this adapter in the box and cut one of my many charger cords that will fit the adapter. Screw it onto the charger I am good to go right?

I was looking for a plug in my mess of old chargers that would fit the adapter and came across this charger. Will this work?

it is not automatic you could overcharge. (the one you mention) One thing good about this charger (my link)it can stay plugged in without ever killing your battery. If you use that charger (your link) and forget it you could kill the gear the battery etc. understand my link is not a powersource it is a charger. your link is a powersource. the difference is no auto turn off when charging. That is very dangerous with a powersource type like yours. Please get one that will power down.

but you can cut off an end of the wire and use it to charge as long as you don't reverse it. Keep pos to pos and neg to neg

I figured I couldn't get that lucky to already have one. If I cut off the wire to use it anyway of knowing pos from neg?
    Thanks Dave

I'm pretty sure the outer "sleeve" is the neg and it i usually a black wire. But yeah I usually use a mulitmeter's circuit test function to be sure the black one is the correct wire for the sleeve.
