Who Has Used This B&C Driver?
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=294-654
It would be used in a direct-radiating fashion. Sealed or ported, not sure right now.
How is it?

"It has been remarked that if one selects his own components, builds his own enclosure, and is convinced he has made a wise choice of design, then his own loudspeaker sounds better to him than does anyone else's loudspeaker. In this case, the frequency response of the loudspeaker seems to play only a minor part in forming a person's opinion."
L.L. Beranek, Acoustics (McGraw-Hill, New York, 1954), p.208.

'Just looked at the Zaph tests and the bass response is FAIL.
Nevermind this project.

Re: Who Has Used This B&C Driver?
lol that's physics for ya - high efficiency = high Fs

Re: Who Has Used This B&C Driver?
My curiosity has been aroused.
What would the intended application have been?
For a pro SR driver, it has decent specs. Did Zaph test it as a pro driver or for HT or 2 ch hi-fi?

Not necessarily.. (I'm a physics major )

I have a planar tweeter that I was going to make into one heck of an efficient 2-way with the driver in question. It may still happen, but it will not be direct-radiating.

Was it to be a studio monitor or small SR speaker?

Main monitor in an esoteric all-tube system.

Not necessarily a high fs, but if not that a low Qes and Qts and/or high Bl, or a combination of all that one way or another will result in less low frequency sensitivity than a driver which is intended for low frequency use, which this one obviously is not.
And that's why high-efficiency 2-way systems are rare and usually fully horn-loaded..(I'm a loudspeaker designer )

Good stuff!
How rare are we talking? (I'm on the lunatic fringe)

Seen any Altec A7s or Jensen Imperials lately? High efficiency 2 ways are either very large or thin in the low end.

Re: Who Has Used This B&C Driver?
Strikes me as an awesum driver. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.
I would use it as a wide band (almost full band) mid range driver. A 3 way system mind you, with an outboard sub and a decent tweeter for the top end.
Just let it do what it was meant to. Too many times, i have seen drivers pushed beyond their intended ranges.

Re: Who Has Used This B&C Driver?
NK, I"m in a similar search for a great sounding high efficiency woofer to mate to an 800hz horn. Your XO to ribbon will obviously be wayyyy higher, but I'm curious what you've come up with. Have you had any luck with prospects? craig

Hey,
They're out there, but they are money. PHL, etc.
I was looking to cheapskate it.
