Re: Links to existing DIY speaker designs...

There are a lot of personal websites out there on the subject of speaker building--with varying levels of helpfulness, depending on your ability level. Remember, though, that just because some website or book says that their way is the correct way to build speakers does not mean that it is the only way--and it doesn't even mean that they are right. Speaker building is an art, and like any art form, everyone's approach is a little different. In other words: don't be afraid to try someone's advice; but in the end, you have to do what works for you.

Backwards you have it. DIYers can't compete with manufacturers who buy drivers by the container, lumber by the pallet, and employ cheap Asian labor that seldom exceeds a couple of hours for the build. In other words, the bottom end of the marketplace. DIY makes sense where the main expense is labor, not parts, and that's at the top of the food chain. If you want a $100 speaker buy a $100 speaker. If you want a $5k plus speaker for less than 10% of that in materials, build one.

While I agree with you Bill, I don't think anyone actually paid attention to naborsjim since his only post was to insult the hobby which all of us love and come to this forum to enjoy. Seems a few posters come in, dump their ridiculous thoughts, and leave never to be seen again. Which may actually be a good thing.
