Still semi-OT: More PC progress(?)....
I gave in and purchased a RocketFish 7.1 + SP/DIF soundcard today, and tunes can now be back in use.
New issue-
I cannot boot from the HDD-copy CD-ROMs to backup my system, as I have only one IDE cable, and 3 devices; 2 HDD, and the 8x DVD+/-RW.
This means to make the HDD copy, I require that all 3 drives are active; one for source, one for destination, and one for the disc-boot program.
I guess I am in the market for an SATA DVD+/-RW device to allow this to happen.
Also-
It appears that I do have files active for System in the C:/ drive, and the D:/ contains all the programs and docs. Does this mean that I will have to clone both partitions to the newer HDD?
I will have to associate the dual partitions prior the time of transfer I wager?
I just want to be able to use the newer internal 160GB drive as my main and use the older HDD 80GB as the backup.
I never thought I'd have this much trouble upgrading and everything else...
Thanks for the help in the past and future...

You should really upgrade to an SATA hard drive at this point .. it's not worth it to continue using IDE.

If I hadn't already purchased a brand new PATA 160GB HDD, I would. I only have about 70GB used anyway, if that.
I'll leave that option for the future. I don't use my PC as much as some others for as much stuff. That doesn't mean I don't like performance, but I get what I can at the time.

Re: Still semi-OT: More PC progress(?)....
Wolf, you have some options:
1) get a SATA HD.
2) Load XP prof, onto the clone/copy HD.
3) Load the software I sent you onto your HD and use it to clone your drive (it will clone all paras on the drive), without the need for the CD drive.
4) Clone/copy your new HD to the USB-HD.
5) get a IDE-to-USB drive case and use your new or old HD as a USB drive.
Let me know if you need more information about any of these options.

Bought an LG GH22 double-layer 22x DVD+/-RW.
Should be backed up shortly!

I gave in and purchased a RocketFish 7.1 + S/PDIF soundcard today, and tunes can now be back in use.
Evidently NOT! I still can't get any sound out of this machine......
Grrr.....
Wolf
Nevermind!!!
I found out the S/PDIF output was selected as the main/only output, and I changed that for a recurrance of what the former audio-capabilities were. Now- I can listen!!!!
WOOOHOOO!!!
LG SATA DVD-ROM is installed now as well, and I can further backup the current HDD to the other and hopefully disconnect the first without issue.
Almost there!

It was ~6 yrs old....
This LG is a monster, and loads *incredibly* fast. Good price at $65. To top it off, it's less-deep than the old drive, so I actually get more space internally.
I recloned to the new HDD tonight as well, so at this point, there is nothing old inside the reused-case that is running. I have the old HDD in there for an extreme backup emergency, but not much more than that. It is disconnected. The PCI 56K modem is in the slot, but not fully-installed.
I replaced:
PSU
MOBO
CPU
DVD-ROM
HDD
system-fan (now 120mm, made an adapter from plexi!)
graphics card
soundcard
Firewire card
front-panel LED's
PC-system speaker
Back to the hobby.....
I actually glued a NEHD together tonight, and will hopefully do the other one tomorrow. Then it's making a xover-door for them, and hitting them with the spray-paint! I'll let them sit a week to cure the paint, so I don't have much time.
I also still have to cut out panels for the naked mule-box the Propensity will appear in at Dayton in a couple weeks.
Thanks for checking in!

Yep-
It certainly looks like *I* did this....

You'll notice a few things if you're a savvy enough speaker builder too...
Later, and thanks to those that helped, enjoy the snaps!
