    Default AE TD12S or RSS390HF?

Looking to decide on a woofer for the bottom end here. Midrange will be peerless 831882. I was going to use the RSS390HO, 4CF vented, but as I'm crossing at 250hz I am a bit concerned about midbass quality with the large aluminum cone when used this high. The question is, do the benefits of the TD12S justify the significant expense over the RSS390HF?

Is there another option I should consider?

    Hi Max,

You wrote HF on the top, then mentioned the HO version @ 4 ft^3.

And then, talking about comparing a 15" woofer against a 12" unit from AE.

The respective 15" unit from AE would require a much larger enclosure than you might want. I thing 4 cubic feet is a bit too small for the HF version, but even smaller than that would work for the HO.

    Best to ya,

    Scott L

the peerless has an f3 of 118 sealed at about 3 liters cross it at 150 to 180 the unit would be down 1 or an f1 at 150. not taking into accout that the inductor will have some resistance which would raise the qts on the mid which means that the f3 of 118 and the f1 at 150 are conservative. more like f3 of 109 and f1 of 142. so crossing at 150 should work.

    from the pdf
    Suggested box alignments:
    Sealed box of 3 liters (0.1cf); F3 of 115Hz
    Vented box of 7 liters (0.25cf); 1.5" port by 4.4" long; F3 65Hz

vented gets you well under a f3 of 80hz

no need to cross at 250hz. A rss390hf in a sealed 4 cu ft will get low. and play clean to 100hz I play mine to 100hz it is clean up to that point.
