Default Recycling my Dayton RS HF 12" Sub...

So I am thinking of taking the sub out of the Jeep.

    http://techtalk.parts-express.com/sh...d.php?t=196148

Life changes, and I need the hauling room, back seats are filled with car seats now... (kids!).
So if I put this in the house for HT use, would it be of any use in the box it is currently in - it is 1.5 cu.ft. sealed. I know I would get better performance in a larger box, so I should probably just plan on that project now. I am going to need an amp for it as well. Maybe a plate amp, used externally and just try the box it is in without cutting any holes. Then I could use the same amp, and use it in the "new" box that I will inevitably be building. Thanks for any advice in advance.
    Todd.

Try it. I prefer ported myself, but 1.5 sealed will sound good IMO.

Ditto, especially with the active EQ available on most decent sub amps.

    Pete,
What sub amps have you tried? Are you referring to the crossovers like on that Dayton 240 or the Bash amps? Which ones have an active EQ? Thanks for the info...

    HPSA500

    Parametric EQ.

The Bash amps have the ability to adjust boost as well, though not as easily as with the HPSA series.

That 1.5 isn't too small, and will get you to the mid-30 Hz range. Corner load it and power it with the 109 dollar 240 watt plate amp. Without the boost and corner loaded you should get usable output to 30 hz or maybe a little lower. If you use the plate amp that has the boost, your F3 will get into the mid to upper 20's. The un-boosted one will have more output across it's pass band, the boosted one will have better extension. Pick your poison

    http://www.oaudio.com/500W_SUBAMP.html 229 shipped

you can keep the sub in its box buy this amp and make a matching case. you can place this near the sub or near the ht. near the ht means longer speaker cables. new the sub means longer line level cable (rca) this is a better amp then the sa240 but you pay more.

this is pe's amp that is close to the o audio amp

    http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=300-806

    250 shipped

I have not used either amp. i have read a lot of postings saying the o audio amp is a little better then pe's. price is close so pick without a lot of fear. Pe does have better service if they break

The O-Audio amp is a BASH amp, so it would be closer to the BASH500 than the HPSA500. Hopefully the O-Audio has a better HPF than the BASH500 does.

So it seems like I can leave that thing in it's current box without feeling too guilty! I will be looking at all the amps you have all mentioned.

I had a feeling Phil would have a recommendation! Can't slip one by you Phil! You should be a professional shopper or something, you always know the deals!
Thanks for the tips to all of you.

I wish the BASH amps that PE sells had that parametric EQ like the Oaudio one has. I know they are probably the same amp, but I have to say I really like the look of the actual BASH branded amp. That faceplate looks sweet! I also like the idea of mounting it into a case to make it look slick.
