Default Replacement drivers for Bose 101?

Got a pair of these "outdoor" speaks that need the drivers replaced. Can't recone as the coils and all are shot. Any other drivers that will fit these cabinets without too much in the way of mods?

What size are the drivers, and diameter of the mounting holes? PE has a few different cheap "fullrange" drivers on sale, and Madisound has some Vifa 4" fullrangers that look pretty nice. Any of these would probably outperform the original Blose drivers.

They are the same as the 901's I think. 3 hole 4"? diameter

Reconing replaces the coils. The 3 hole Bose are proprietary. They're also really cheap junk, worth about $9.95. It's well worth it to do whatever is required to replace them with good drivers.

Are you planning on using these outdoors? Do you have an approximate internal volume? Judging from a quick google search for the exterior dimensions, it looks like you might have about 4.5 - 5 liters with which to work.

I too am looking for replacement drivers- The cutout is about 4" in diameter and the enclosure is 8.5" X 5" X 5" give or take. In my case I do not plan to use them outdoors. Any recommendations?

So ? What's the deal? Anybody ever figure this out?
I need a driver also. Bose 101 indoor outdoor.

Here's a pic of one of these

Let's open this old thread and pick something that fits.

I'm more than happy to drill some holes for a four hole rather than proprietary 3 hole mounted speaker.

I happened across this while looking for sub plate amps. $4.99 replacement driver plus $4.99 shipping.

It is a 1 ohm driver though.

If you're looking for the simplest route, then I think this is the way to go. If you were happy with the originals, these are supposed to be drop-in replacements. As Wolf mentioned, they're 1 Ohm, so watch your impedence (wire in series).

I think that's the ticket, I saw the parts express 290-922 but I think that wiring one speaker in series is nigh impossible. There's only one speaker in a 101 box.

    I didn't and wouldn't have known that.
    Good luck!

    Now that I read
It will work in the 101 but the original passive filter inside works in conjunction with a 1.2 ohm driver to create a 4 ohm total impedance, the tank filter provides a notch at 2.4Khz to eliminate harsh treble. This filter would have to be by-passed when using your replacement because it would result in a total impedance of ~ 11 ohms and the filter would shift the notch much lower in frequency

    Hmmm..
