Pyle Pro PPA12 12" PA Speaker
Can someone recommend a good driver to go with Pyle Pro PPA12 12" PA Speaker? I would like to use these with small pa, 6 channel mixer 150 watts per channel (2) or as floor monitors.

Do you actually have these yet? They're not at all what I would call a PA driver with only 90db sensitivity, that's going to make matching them with a CD horn more difficult and will really limit the sound level you'll get out of the box.

+1. The only thing 'pro' about Pyle Pro is the name. I suggest you don't even think about using that driver for anything. And as it seems you intend to build your own PA boxes don't choose the drivers first, and don't try to design your own cab. Build a tested design using the drivers recommended for it.

yes i already have them. So can they be salvaged to construct a half decent project?

The specs are really poor. They'd need a gigantic cab to not boom severely.

And they won't get very loud.. 110db@1m with your amp clipping.

Drive them with a bigger amp and make fire. Those things are marginally better than what's in the Dogg's (described in the other forum).
What box? As big of a sealed box as you can stand. But don't spend a lot of money on the cab or the tweeter.

Re: Pyle Pro PPA12 12" PA Speaker
I was going to build an enclosure similar to the one suggested on the "Project ideas" tab. the enclosure i had in mind would host 2x12's wired in parallel and a horn/tweeter of some sort for the high end. Any suggestions for the horn and cabinet design? i would still like to complete the project...

Re: Pyle Pro PPA12 12" PA Speaker
I have used both the Selenium DH200 and D210ti and they're both pretty good, match them with the Dayton 12" waveguide http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=270-312 for something that works just as well standing as laying on it's side. If you want to go cheaper then select the Goldwood GM-500 driver and something like the this Pyle CD horn.. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...umber=292-2569.

Like I said, when contemplating a build you first choose the cab design, doing so based on its measured results, and then use drivers with the appropriate specs for it. Those Pyles will work in a sealed cab of 2 to 5 cubic feet each, but with very low sensitivity, too low for professional use IMO. They would require crossing over no higher than 1kHz to a midrange driver. I'd dump them on EBay, and chalk it up as a learning experience.

What's the T/S specs for that speaker?

Re: Pyle Pro PPA12 12" PA Speaker
Do you like Techno? You should be able to make a decent (for that purpose) band pass mudbass bin. Or horn loaded. Pretty Lo Fi for home use though, maybe it would work for an for HT?

With a Qts of .66 it's totally unsuited for any horn, or portable sized vented enclosure, bandpass or otherwise.

Re: Pyle Pro PPA12 12" PA Speaker
Won't go down low enough for techno. Horn, bandpass or otherwise. Put it in a little bitty box and have an 85 Hz boooooom machine, but that's about the extent of it.
T/S? IIRC, Q about 0.7, fs 35, VAS about the size of a small car.

Re: Pyle Pro PPA12 12" PA Speaker
Vas: 4.517
Fs: 35.5
Qes: 0.88
Qms: 2.62
Qts: 0.66
Xmax: (unquoted)
Re: ? (perhaps 6.2 ohms)
Using two in a 5 cu.ft. sealed box and wired in parallel should achieve 93dB/1W/1M with a 4 ohm load. Line or stuff the box with polyester fiberfill. For a bit more boom, vent @ 35 Hz and use EQ to adjust the bass response above that (e.g. -4db @70 Hz). Use a HP ("rumble") filter @ 35 Hz. Don't expect "Hi-Fi" performance, but it should be fairly loud.
