    Default Diy Htib

So my gf's nephew asked me what to buy at Best Buy for his bedroom stereo. He is just turning thirteen and worked a summer counselor job. He had some money saved. So, I said I'll build you something better, save your money.

Three Overnight Sensations, two Zaph surrounds, and a Cerberus sub. I got an HK AVR154 refurb on ebay. 500 dollars total, about what he was going to blow at BB.

I listened to the OSs at work with subs, they are very nice sounding speakers. Going to install today. I will report back with results.

I don't know why I was expecting to read a post about an HT infinite baffle with that thread title.

Regardless, it looks like the GF's nephew will have a nice system that should definetly beat the pants off of anything available at BBuy, especially at that price. That should earn you some good browny points with the GF...

Is that particle board you used? I've used particle board a time or 2 for small cabinets like those, it can look good with a nice shiny clear coat mixed with some black, either the drivers or black side panels maybe. Sort of industrial/contemporary/utility, but still nice.

    Very nice, excellent.
All your tweeters are offset to the right. You should have offset at least one of them to the left. And I'm guessing that one of the enclosures is for a center channel. I would have placed the tweeter in the center for a center channel. Left, right and center.

The cabinets are baltic birch sides, mdf middles. The placement in his bedroom is so poor that the tweeter location is shall we say, moot. If he complains of a skewed soundstage, I figure we have a budding audiophile. I'll give him the link to diyaudio forum where he can blossom.

I just finished with install. Cerberus sub is awesome in a 12 x 12 bedroom. Kid is happy. Possible issue with HK refurb unit, either remote or receiver is intermittent on volume control. Will try new batteries and go from there.

    Thanks for compliments.

Very cool!! I have a pair of the OS's with a rss265 ported and love them. I had been thinking three more. I like this idea a lot.

Great job! I like how you mixed the work of three different designers into one final project. Should sound pretty darn good for a small Home Theater! And the fact that it's going to a 13 year-old is like a wish fulfilled for the 13 year-old I once was, with his stupid Minimus 7s. (I think at some point my dad bought me a pair of Pioneer 2-ways with an 8 inch woofer and cone tweeter in a sealed box, because he wanted to use the Minimus 7s for something else around the house. Those Pioneers REALLY sounded like crap--made the Minimus 7s seem like a pair of Sonus Fabers. Ugh. Bad audio memories )

Thank you Paul. Your Overnight Sensations really sound nice. I had them set up at work to test them out, with two subs crossed at 90HZ, sitting atop my huge Dayton 8s. A friend came in, and of course thought the sound was coming from the Dayton 8s.

These little speakers really have a huge sound with great bass.

Thanks for a great design. These were built as your originals, 1/2" thick material, surface mounted drivers.
