TriTrix Baffle - Size Does Matter?
I have been reading (but not comprehending) how baffle size and edge type effect performance. I am trying to get a handle on how much I can "tweak" the TriTrix baffle without significant sonic changes. Pretty sure I will want to use some type of grill so I will need to minimize those effects.
I am leaning towards Curt's stock sealed design except for an extended front baffle. The top, L and R of the baffle would be approx. 3/4" wider than the cabinet behind. The lower baffle is extended to the floor and would be punched with some 3/4" openings for aesthetic purposes only. The grill would "float" about 1/4" from the baffle on standoffs.
Are there any rules of thumb that I should know? Don't recess the baffle for a grill? Speaker grill mounting?
Thanks Mrk
Hope the pics work.

Re: TriTrix Baffle - Size Does Matter?
The baffle should be 7-7.5 inches wide.
The crossover has been designed with a certain amount of baffle step compensation that is specific to the width of the baffle.
Making it wider will indeed effect how it sounds.
Curt did such a fabulous job in this design... they really sound fantastic... I suggest you don't change it.

Re: TriTrix Baffle - Size Does Matter?
why not keep the baffle width exactly as it was designed, and alter the box dimensions to get what u desire (3/4" narrower, so a little deeper or longer to keep same volume)? But then i find it hard to believe 3/4" makes that much difference? I am sure the length of the baffle does not matter. looks cool for sure!

Re: TriTrix Baffle - Size Does Matter?
The sealed tritrix has a 6 1/2" wide baffle. The TL has a 7 1/2" wide baffle, same crossover. A sealed box then could have 1/2" wider baffle on each side and be, shall we say, kosher. Curt, the designer, can best answer your question. I am a good box builder, but I am no designer.
Good looking rendering.

Re: TriTrix Baffle - Size Does Matter?
Thanks for the help. I can change the overhang from 3/4" to 1/2" and that will drop it from 8" to 7 1/2". I probably will also build a center TriTrix MTM that will be in a standard 10 liter sealed box and the baffle on that will stay at 6 1/2".

Re: TriTrix Baffle - Size Does Matter?
You should be good with that baffle width, especially if you plan to use a roundover or bevel on the edges.

Re: TriTrix Baffle - Size Does Matter?
Thanks Curt. I will think about using a bevel, but I'm making the speakers compatible with some Arts and Crafts style furniture so large round overs are out. Probably will just cut back to a 7 1/2" baffle with eased square edges.
