I got a pretty cool present from a friend who was helping clean out his in-laws basement: a pair of Electrovoice E-V 16As and a Sansui 1000x reciever.

I only have one of the speakers and no reciever yet, but I'm still excited to get to play. Initial listening impression: pretty decent 12" 3-way. Sounds OK the way it is, and at the very least I the boxes seem pretty well built: a 25" tall, 40lb bookshelf.

Time has taken its toll, though. The surrounds on the 12 are toast. Maybe I'll get a rebuild kit, but building a huge bookshelf speaker with modern components without having to build a cabinet is very tempting.
