Bass cab for TM open baffle...?
Happy holiday everyone !!!
I've reccently built a pair of passive TM open baffle with the following driver:
* Hivi K1 tweeter
* Peerless 830685 (6" mid with vented motor for only $15 buck each)
1st order crossover at 215 hz - 2200 hz. Could go even a bit lower !!!
Well, the sound of these two drivers combine is pretty good so far as I am running it along with a 10" active sub. But I still feel something is missing after listening to it. May be it could be the issue of bass localization or something else ??? The position of the sub is in the middle of 6 ft between the two speaker. (The room is about 10 x 11 ft x 8 ft tall)
I figure may be if I remove the active sub and replace it with two 8" woofer (Peerless 850137). One per side. May be this could improve the respond. My question is should I cross at about 250 or bellow 200 hz ??? And does anyone have any bass box design idea that would like to share ??? Thks

well, to start off, the K1 doesn't lend itself to 1st order crossovers very well. The natural response, shown below will have a 3rd order roll off at 1500Hz with a 1st order filter.
You'll also be losing quite a bit of bass response below the baffle step, so you'll need to either cross to a bass bin much higher up, or you need more EQ on the TM to keep it crossed around 250Hz.
Have you attempted to model the performance of those two drivers with Jeff B's tools?
