    Default Overnight Sensations FINISHED...

3 coats of Rustoleum white primer

Rustoleum Hammered copper. (One of these days I'll stop cheating with the textured finishes... )

The terminals were mighty close to the metal housing, so some heat shrink was in order to guard against shorting.

    Gasketing to seal rear panel

    Post terminal solder

    One handful of fluffed fill

Those silver panel mounting screws are temporary, once I find some nice black ones, I plan to replace.... or maybe not... undecided currently.

Now listening to them for first time. Like so many have said, this small designed sounds very BIG. Surprising bass, very crisp mids. Currently listing to acoustical guitar (Andy Mckee), and what jumps out to me is how the string finger scrapes stand out. I will be enjoying these for a long time. (well, my wife will mainly, as these are for her. she chose the color)

Nice Job! Question though........With the offset tweeter....Did you try them on the outside? I've always been under the impression that if you're gonna toe em in, the response is a bit smoother with the tweets on the outside.

    Actually, I have not.

My last project were the Tritrix MT's, and Curt saw the picture with the tweeters on outside, and scolded me.

I will try it though. I also need to pull out a bit of stuffing to see how that sounds.

HD has some "connector bolts" in oiled bronze, IIRC, that would look real nice with your cabs. Flat with allen head, in a few lengths for about a buck a pop. Super sweet if you did the minmal recess to flush them

I personally really like the hammered finishes. I only painted the ones I made glossy since they weren't for me. They look very nice and the machine screws and removable rear are what I wish I would have done. Nice job!!

You could actually get some of the antique copper hardware used for cabinets. That would probably match the finish really well. If you decide to stick to the black screws (which will also look nice), get one of the 20% off coupons for Harbor Freight (you can find them in all kinds of magazines, or if you're not already a member of their e-mail circular, you'll get one when you sign up), and get the allen-head machine screws in black. They actually have a wide variety of fasteners.

They look great and I really like the finish. I'm a big fan of the Rustoleum hammered look, and that color is sharp. I might just try that out in my next build.

Heck yeah! I'm a big fan of the hammered finish, too. I hope your wife enjoys them.

By the way: someone's got some pretty good macro-photography skills!!

    Very nice job!

Question - it looks like you have a nifty crimper of some sort because of the quailty of the terminal crimps. Could I inquire about what you used for that?

Experimentation with the stuffing has a significant effect on the sound of these. The removable back will come in handy for that.

Very nice! Great color and paint job, great craftsmanship.

Question: why no bracing? I know I'm a bit of a maniac when it comes to bracing, but I would have thought that even just one brace side-to-side would be a good idea.

Those oak speaker stands are a really nice touch, too! I wish I had thought of them first. Just an oak board, some dowels, and a fostner bit. Very sharp!

Those came out very nice. I really like the way you worked the rear removable panel, the round edges are very cool, I wonder how you did that.

The paint came out nice too!

I honestly don't remember where I got these.
If there's one thing I can do well, its terminate wires with solderless terminals. (10 years as an aircraft electician).

I like these because of its bite. Notice the sharp dip in the top. That does a good job of angling the metal downwards into the wirebundle. Makes for maximum contact and grip.

And those terminals with the extra tangs to grip the insulation are great. Best terminals PE has. Forget the insulated ones.

    errr...

because Paul C said so? honestly, he mentioned that because of how very small these cabs are, no bracing was necessary. And since I am [still] an idget regarding design, I took him at his word.

I can already tell, I am going to get pretty good at building other designs, LONG before I can completely design my own, or even understand all the theory involved. Its getting a bit frustrating...

    Indeed, great job!

And, +1 on the photog skills.

I own a crimper that does that, but I honestly thought that it only worked for molex connectors. Yay!

Harbor Freight has a pair of crimpers similar to these. The main issue is the thicker/wider area where the crimp is being made. The standard crimpers are pretty narrow (seem to made from a thick piece of sheet metal), and I normally end up making a couple of crimps side-by-side, which don't look as good. The wider crimpers I got from Harbor Freight are a lot nicer. Of course, when shopping at Harbor Freight, inspect the item carefully. They have gems-n-junk, you just have to determine which are gems.

Did you glue in the tweeters or just press-fit?
