Thread: My first LA

  1. #1

    Default My first Line Array

So I am going to build some sort of line array, I have found a couple designs online and I am confident I can pull this off.

I want to use 12 woofers and 12 (or more) tweeters per enclosure.

for woofers I would like to use this peerless model http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=299-250

For tweeters I was thinking about using the apex Jr. tweeters or maybe some cheap piezos or something cheap that anyone would recommend.

Using these woofers and apex jr. tweeters can anyone give me an Idea where I should put the crossovers.

If you're going to use 6.5" woofers, you'll want to use tweeters that can reach low enough to cross with the woofers before they begin beaming around 2500Hz. That excludes all but the most expensive ribbons.

Tweeters that can do that and still pack tightly are not too common. The ND28 can be mounted pretty close together and still cross as low as 2000Hz.

If you want to use the Apex tweeters and cross higher, I'd suggest a smaller woofer.

Would this Hi-Vi 2 1/2" full range driver be suitable for LA usage from 500 Hz up with a passive crossover?

This is by far superior to the 2.5" unit. Much smoother response in the 1KHz range and able to cross to a pair of subs/woofers at 150Hz. You can also cross these to a tweeter as high as 3KHz since you can get the tweeter array closer to the acoustic center.
