Default OT: My Other Hobby Gone Bad!

Thought some of you may be bored with cabin fever and all, so I thought I would post this.
My other hobby it water ski jumping. I was going through some tournament videos last night, from last year, and came across this one. I came on the ramp a little late and my right ski fin caught the edge of the jump surface up the side of the ramp about a foot. I was a little soar but got out of the water on my own. That is my wife video taping. She has a bad habit of ending the tape on a good crash.
In the water ski world this is called a yard sale. Normally all your equipment is scattered across the lake.
    Enjoy!

I've held a few yard sales over the years. The worst is when your yard sale items end up under the dock and you have to go visit the dock spiders. I'm not afraid of spiders but having two or three of these things dropping on your head is a little unnerving.

    Dave,

I haven't skied in years, but I do remember coming up sore many times too. Somehow those occasions became more frequent as the interval between rides became greater

My skills were not as accomplished (extreme) as yours--strictly recreational.

Yeah, gotta say I'd scream like a girl if I saw that! All we have in Ohio are Wolf spiders. Pretty harmless.

No, I got pretty good at landing on my head.
I've crushed my heel into 4 pieces, cracked my ribs and, at the same site in the video four years early, knocked myself out, which turned into a trip to the hospital. In my behalf I came back the next day and won the tournament. But, can say I have been lucky not to land on the family jewels.

I did go the last three years without a major crash up to this one.

    Dave,
Your stories are so funny and real. Have you considered being a comedian? The problem I relate to most of them,

Funny thing is my wife doesn't think I'm so funny. I tend to say things I shouldn't. She is teaching me " Inside thought Dave. Inside thought!"

Speaking of yard sales, anyone see the women's downhill yesterday? That was crazy. Glad all the girls were able to walk away.

It also raises the question of whether one needs to cross the finish line with their skis on.

I saw that. I also feel their pain. I would think down hill racing its all about crossing the line with your body in what ever way you can.

That reminds me the year before last I went snow skiing with my buddy. He loves to fly down the hill on a snow board. He said very few people can keep up with him. So, I said "really". Hmmm. Being my first time out snow skiing in about 25 years.
We had been out about four hours, for me a break every three runs. At the end of the night I was up to double black diamond runs. We were at the top of the hill and he says " see you at the bottom". He took off and I was right behind him. I went smoken down this hill out of control the whole time. You should have seen the look on his face when he got to the bottom, turned around and saw me right behind him.
My next and last trip down the hill was a yard sale. I had one ski half way up the hill and the other almost at the bottom. That was a blast though.

I like to do a little downhill skiing and am not afraid of throwing my 50 year old body around the hill like I'm 17. Last winter I was attempting to improve my mogul skiing skills - with limited success unfortunately. After about the fourth or fifth nasty spill, a Ski Patrol guy who was permanantly posted in the area came up to me and said 'Buddy, either you learn to ski these better or I'm gonna have to ask you figure out a way to stop beating up our hill'.

I'm a little smarter about this stuff now - I take the Monday off after getting back now!

So Dave, really...be nicer to the lake next time!

Well Martyh I am glade to see I'm not the only 50 year old kid. I know after a bad fall like the one in the video the boat driver flips the boat right around and a spotter from the shore line jumps in and swims out. They always say " are you alright". Usually my answer is " I'll let you know in about two days.
I do hope not to beat the lake up next season. I broke a set of jumpers a few years ago from a bad fall. Cost $2400 to replace them, so best to always land on my feet.

My wife and most other people don't get my humor either, somehow I come across as being dead serious with my sarcasm. Like the time I told a lady at church she could have gotten a better seat if she'd shown up on time, she thought I was a real jerk for calling her out for being late, even though we were both 15 minutes early and there was nobody else in the chapel. My boss is British though and I can really bang on his funny bone. Some times I think I was born on the wrong continent.

Yep! I get that a lot. "Dry Humor". Its a blast if someone doesn't know you.
It can also get you in trouble with people that have no humor.

I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of us here that have this same exact problem/gift. Around family and friends that I've known for at least a little bit they know when I'm being sarcastic and many people find me humorous but when you first meet someone they have no idea if you are being serious or not... quite a good time indeed. I think that is why DIY get togethers and this forum work so well.
