Was playing with my sub the other day and ran it full range. I noticed a horrible peak in response (probably that big spike in response at 2k) and soon found out that it is actually the dustcap ringing. Just found it interesting.
The response would be greatly improved by damping the dustcap with something like that car door stuff. Not that this is a problem using it as a sub.

Very interesting discovery. It would be quite simple to investigate some fixes. A bit of scotch tape to the dome should indicate if damping material will be of benefit.

I think sticking some of that pliable speaker gasket stuff on there would improve it significantly. Just putting your finger on it lightly reduces it greatly. Just adding some mass to it would probably help. It is very audible.
