Yeah... these guys are ugly, but in a fascinating way. They look like Howard the Duck crossed with some Pokemon figure. Kind of a huge-sucking-mouth-thing. Or maybe like the plant in Little Shop of Horrors. Whatever it is, I wouldn't want to be around them when they're hungry!

I always thought the B&W stuff was ugly :O

I also thinkusing pin cushion frames and/or frames truncated on all four sides goes a long way to making a speaker ugly.

Well, you didn't restrict this to commercial products so I'll submit these:

And finally, my very own creation from 1986:

I wonder if those lips flap in sync with the song playing through them?

Hey I used that Radio Shack mid to mod a pair of 8" two-ways, right around that time, in fact(may have been '87)!

I used all Radio Shack parts: An 8" woofer, that mid, and one of their piezo supertweeters, the square box one. Put in a three way OTS xo with selectable xo points (), mounted the woof and mid in the original holes, and velcro'd the tweet to the top of the cab!

    Good Times!

PS: I'm pretty sure that Wolf has a pair of those mids, waiting to be used in something....

    Funny that-
I have 4 of the mids, sold 4 of those tweeters to JohnnyRichards, and traded some cabinets for 4 of those woofers that I had to Shawn. I coulda built 4 of those!!!

Those drivers must have enjoyed a long production run! My best friend build a pair of speakers in wood shop class when we were in Jr High, ~1977. He used those same mids and tweeters, but with the RS 10" woofers. I think the cabinets were solid mahogany...and BIG!

This guy's been the subject of much mockery. And deservedly so. Poor design for ultrapremium price. Lovely!

Setting aside questions of what happens with a pair of tweeters that far apart, recognise anything here from the PE catalogue:

Linn's warranty section claims that you need the original packing in order for a warranty or return. Now where to store....

There are a couple of extraordinary exceptions, but for the most part speakers made of PVC pipe look ugly to me --> http://images.google.com/images?hl=e...ed=0CCAQsAQwAw

    170 bucks for a pair of M3Ns?

not sure how they got their spec of 80-20k Hz since that driver takes a nosedive at 8k or so...

    This one is even worse:

That is a pair of B2S's selling for 250 bucks... just wow...

Wow, that's quite a markup for the Dayton 150 and Behringer amps...

I am somewhat curious what a stylized "D" might have to do with Linn Audio, but maybe that's just me....

Also, nice photoshopping....wow this guy is really something.

Haha, I actually bought the B&C DE500's I used on my latest project from that guy (David Linn). Nice guy and I got a good deal... I have some email back and forth where I asked him some questions about those speakers with some "interesting" replies... My favorite part (aside from the admission that the ribbon tweeters are just there for show and to be able to claim flat to 40kHz) was when i asked him what he does to account for the CTC spacing of the 15's to the DE500 used as a "mid", especially since his XO is 1500hz. His answer was to the effect of 'they measure +/-3dB when sitting in the optimal seating location'. The vertical axis must be a MESS on these things (the ribbons are crossed in at 8kHz FYI).
