MODERATORS: Can we change the settings for uploading pics as attachments?

I mentioned this in another thread but it deserves its own. Currently we are forced to use JPG file format if a pic is taller than 280 pixels. For graphs, that washes out the colors and wastes tons of bandwidth on the PE server. I've attached 3 pics in JPG, PNG and GIF formats so you can see what I mean. They were cropped down enough to get under the height restriction for PNG and GIF files.

You might want to consider just using an image hoster like Imgur. Amazing website.

I have a web server where I can post pics. It's an extra step/pain for me and the images will disappear and give a busted link when I do my routine housekeeping of old junk I don't care about. If PE is going to accept attachments at all, it would be nice if they didn't discourage the use of lossless GIF and PNG which are clearer and smaller in most cases. JPG is still the format of choice for photos of course.

The problem with off-site image hosting is that two years from now they are gone, rendering research a frustrating endeavor....

That and some corporate web filters do not pass imageshack pictures.

Not that we would need to browse tech talk at work or anything...
