OT - Possibly the greatest movie scene - ever.
Josey - You be Ten Bears?
Ten Bears - I am Ten Bears.
Josey - I'm Josey Wales.
Ten Bears - I have heard. You're the Gray Rider. You would not make peace with the Blue Coats. You may go in peace.
Josey - I reckon not. Got no where to go.
Ten Bears - Then you will die.
Josey - I came here to die with you...
Or live with you. Dying ain't so hard for men like you and me, it's livin' that's hard, when all you've ever cared about's been butchered or raped...
Governments don't live together; people live together...
With governments you don't always get a fair word or a fair fight. Well, I've come here to give you either one. Or get either one from ya. I came here like this so you know my Word of Death is true; and then my Word of Life is then true...
The bear lives here, the wolf, the antelope, the Comanche, and so will we. We will only hunt what we need to live on, same as the Comanche does. And every Spring when the grass turns green and the Comanche moves north, you can rest here in peace; butcher some of our cattle and jerk beef for the journey. The sign of the Comanche, that will be on our Lodge. That's my Word of Life.
Ten Bears - And your Word of Death?
Josey - It's here in my pistols, there in your rifles, I'm here for either one.
Ten Bears - These things you say we will have, we already have.
Josey - That's true. I ain't promisin' you nothin' extra. I'm just givin' you life and you're givin' me life. And I'm sayin' that men can live together without butcherin' one another.
Ten Bears - It's sad that governments are chiefed by the double tongues. There is Iron in your Words of Death for all Comanche to see. And so there is Iron in your Words of Life. No signed paper can hold the Iron. It must come from men. The words of Ten Bears carries the same Iron of Life and Death. It is good that warriors such as we meet in the struggle of life...
. . . or death.
It shall be life.
(Blood shared)
Ten Bears - So will it be.
Josey - I reckon so.

Pete, do you know which CE movie had this really big long range rifle in it? Not sure if Clint used it, or someone else (up to the end). Or am I dreamin' and this was some other NON CE movie?

I remember Silverado having a long rifle, and shooting the hat off of John Cleese's head.
I'm not sure I remember a Clint movie with a long rifle, but in The Unforgiven, he takes a short rifle from Morgan Freeman and plinks one of the cowboys that cut up the hooker.

I think you're referring to "Quigley Down Under" with Tom Selleck.

Silverado was a GREAT movie, IMHO, John Cleese's line was classic: "Today my jurisdiction ends here!"
Brian Dennehy did great work as the heavy, as well.
Man! What a cast!
Danny Glover
Scott Glenn
Jeff Goldblum
Kevin Kline
Kevin Costner
Linda Hunt
Joe Seneca
et al...

That did have a long rifle.

Re: OT - Possibly the greatest movie scene - ever.
Clint Eastwood has had some of the best lines in movie history.
How can you not know "Do you feel lucky punk, Well... DO you?"
But to this day I think the best quote is "Good.....Bad.... I'm the guy with the gun"
Now name THAT movie
If it doesn't fit, Force it. If it breaks, It needed replacing any ways

CE used a big bore long-range rifle with a "tube" sight in both movies "Outlaw Jose Wales" where he shoots the rope of the Ferry raft, and I think it was pretty much the same or a very similar type weapon used for the impossible shot from ground level shooting a "top of the ridge sniper" in the movie "Joe Kidd". It may have been two similar weapons, or the same one....either way, they were old "tube" sight long rifles of some sort.
John
If it doesn't fit right the first time, you obviously need to use a larger hammer.

ce made a very long shop to blow up the train tracks in 'two mules for sister sarah'.

Re: OT - Possibly the greatest movie scene - ever.
Man do I love that movie. I still think some of the best parts are where his does the spitting!
I also like the part where he thinks he is going to hook up with the girl and she is in the sack with the old guy. "Guess I am not so old after all".

Re: OT - Possibly the greatest movie scene - ever.
You could be talking about "The Good, The Bad, And The Ugly"... The rifle used to shoot the hangmen's rope. It was just a long barrel Henry in that movie.
All good movies, classics.

Re: OT - Possibly the greatest movie scene - ever.
Start of one of my favorite western scenes the end of the scene as he leaves the saloon is almost as good.
Munny "Which pucker owns this shothole? You there, fat man, speak up."
Skinny "I... I own this establishment. I bought it from Greely for a thous..."
Munny "Better step clear, boys."
Little Bill "Hold on" (Skinny is shot)
Little Bill "Well sir... You are a cowardly sonofawitch because you have just
shot down an unarmed man."
Munny "He should have armed himself if he was gonna decorate his saloon with the body of my friend."
As for Apocalypse Now I'm partial to "Accusing a man of murder here is like handing out speeding tickets at the Indy 500"
Take it easy
