Any one have FRD and Zma files for these or used them? How do they compare to the Peerless 830860 5-1/4" PPB Cone HDS Woofers?I'm playing on using these as mids in a three way crossed over around 400 to 600.

Re: Peerless 835004 SDS
Take a look at the measurements on a peerless thread.

Thanks I guess the 83086 would work better as a mid. They cost more but I can use a simpler crossover. I don't want to try complicated crossovers with notch filters until I gain more experience. Do most paper cone woofers have frequency break ups near the top of their frequency response curves similar to the 835004?

dano, You might also look at the HDS Buy Out drivers. You can get the Nomex version for $10 less. Probably sounds very similar based on what I have read about the HDS series. http://www.parts-express.com/pe/show...number=299-242

Re: Peerless 835004 SDS
I'd wager that the response graph of the 830862 is very similar to the 830873/832873. You could probably get close enough using the frd from one of those units.

I agree with David. You could probably use Zaph's charts for the 830873 and be close enough to voice it. I have the 832873 and I think Jay Kim used Zaph's data to model the MT I took to Iowa last year. It's a great sounding design. I hope Jay will chime in...haven't heard from him in a while.

Do you think the 830862 is just the shielded version of the 830873? I wish PE would supply graphs for their buyouts.

Re: Peerless 835004 SDS
The magnet on the 830862 is considerably smaller than the 830873, but that will mostly affect the T/S parameters. The cone and voice coil appear to be the same design as the 830873, so I would expect the frequency response to be similar. The one thing that concerns me is that the QMS is not similar to the 830873, meaning that either the spider or the surround (or both) are different. This could have an effect on the response, but I'm still reasonably sure that you could get close by using the 830873 response.

Yes and if it has more break up I will need a notch filter. I don't have any passive components on hand and no good local access to them. Notch filters have to be very exact or they won't work. During voicing I might need many different values for coils and capacitors. The shipping costs on multiple small orders would be prohibitive.

Re: Peerless 835004 SDS
I don't think the cone breakup frequency would be changed by a different spider or surround stiffness, those typically have effects lower in frequency. The cone breakup is more a function of cone geometry and material.
Nevertheless it is hard to argue against your logic; spending a little more now for a known result is probably worth the extra $20.
Good luck with your project, what tweeter do you have in mind?
