Need some help with cerwin vega at12
Could use a little help, I have a pair of cerwin vega at-12. I called cv to talk to them about them, they told me they were 6ohm and 200watts so I switched my receiver to 6ohm and I fryed the crossover's. I took all the speakers out and the sub is 8 ohm, the mid is 8 ohm, and the tweeter is 4 ohm, (dont understand all that) anyway I think I would like to buy a nice set of crossover's for them but I have no clue what for sure I need to buy. any help would be appreciated.
Thanks mike

Crossovers and L pads on ebay , http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...0400191436&rvr,
Did you check the fuse ?, and please explain why you think the crossovers are toast?.
Post some pics if you can.
Dont spend your money untill you get some expert advice , this may be a problem the folks on here can sort.
Good luck.

fuse's are ok, the speakers play but sound horrific, I can hear all the voices through the wolfer's the mids and tweeters make noise but have lost all there clearity. One of the level knobs will only turn about an 1/8 and sounds like its grinding charcoal inside. I have read that cv crossover's are junk, and I would like to update them to something better-more durable, but I dont know what kind I need.
Thanks mike

Re: Need some help with cerwin vega at12
Hi, thing is Mike, Textbook crossovers of the shelf don't realy work that well and you may still be dissapointed with the sound if you retrofit these with anything other than standard values.
Sounds as though the L pads are shot, thats what you alter the levels with so you will need to replace them, and perhaps reverse engineer new crossovers with better components of the same value.
That is about all I can suggest, perhaps someone more experienced will chime in and help you.
Good luck.

Re: Need some help with cerwin vega at12
Someone on the CV forum was doing some work on his AT-12 crossover, and posted a schematic:

I would take a very hard look at how this compares to yours (I'm not convinced that it is correct).
As someone else posted, these are readily available on Ebay very reasonably. I don't know if you could build one for any less. As far as quality, there may be room for improvement; but it is going to be difficult without the specs on the components. CV does not give this info up on any of their products (trust me, I've tried).
Good luck, and keep us posted.

I am not sure if the crossover was at fault. I never fried a crossover even the one with 50 volt electrolytic capacitor. On the other hand amplier/receiver could be driven into clipping or become unstable under certain load conditions.
