Dome Tweeter in the Statement Monitor?
Anyone here ever use a dome tweeter in the Statement Monitors? I'm thinking of something like the Dayton RS28A.
Yeah, I know it would require a modified crossover, and it would no longer be a Statement, but I'm thinking it might nice to save $100 and be able to get all the parts from PE.

If you were to try that, I might suggest the Vifa XT25 Ring radiator - could be a neat modification that could sound excellent if executed properly!

Re: Dome Tweeter in the Statement Monitor?
Interesting idea. After building the cabinet out of MDF for the Statement Center I decided that, mostly due to the cost of the ribbon tweeter, that I would build Zaph's ZDT3.5's. This was mainly a cost consideration. I will be following your progress. Try messaging Curt Cambell and asking about this option.

That would be very similar to Jed at CLD's design except the open mid.

I'm sure that Vifa would be a good choice, but I have children running around and I'm concerned that the "nipples" might get tweaked. The RS28 looks like it would be better protected.

I'd go with the XT19 instead, since you're crossing well above 2000Hz. The XT19 will have better off axis performance.

I'm not getting it?
The Statements are named that way for a reason. If cost is an issue, why try to "fiddle" the design. There are many lower cost designs that get excellent reviews from members. It's pretty hard to beat the Tritrix kit for bang-for-buck.

I agree that if cost is an issue you should build another design.
Saving $100 isn't a huge cost savings when considering the total cost of the build.

Do any of them have that TB open-backed mid?

I think if there are high qualify mids ($60 under) with open baffle. That would be my ideal. My only hesitant to Statements is it's too heavy to move and a bit challenging to construct due to its size. I imagine an open baffle is lighter and easier to construct. But I haven't found that yet.

First: Not using the Fountek tweeter = heresy!!!!!!!
You can save some money by buying most of the xover parts directly from Erse (erseaudio.com). I just got every xover component for my Statement Monitors and CC from Erse, except for 2 of the inductors, which were only available at PE.
I can't remember how much I saved at Erse, but even though shipping was around $12, I still saved plenty.
I have full-sized Statements, and I've heard the Statement Monitors (so I'm now building Monitors and the CC). Both are REALLY nice. Don't mess with them. It's really not worth it. If you want to save money, go cheap on the finish...don't mess with the sound.
BTW: I'm a WICKED cheap person, but I wanted to build a 5.1 system. My 5.1 system had to be expanded from either my existing Tritrix TL set, or my Statements. Even though I'm stingy, I'm going with a Statement 5.1 system. The Statement series is worth it!!!
Statements: "They usually kill the desire to build anything else."

If size is an issue, then build the Statement minis or Statement monitors. They retain the midrange character of the full size versions, and can be augmented by a small sub to round out the bottom octave.
Another alternative to save some serious dough would be to go with the Khanspires. They sounded fantastic at Iowa. They are big, though a bit easier to construct since you don't have to build the open back channels for the mids.
If you want open baffle, the Aethers would be an inexpensive, but very high performing OB system.

The TB mids would be of concern as well. The titanium cones could be easily ruined with a misplaced finger. Grill covers are almost a must when little one's are around.
Instead of the RS28, you'd get better off axis performance with the SEAS 22TAF/G, and you wouldn't need to worry about fingers since they have a grid over the dome.
