Default Advice needed: high-end ribbon with low end woofer

Hi, first time here and first time trying to build a speaker

I'm considering experimenting with open baffle designs and after reading different articles it seems that the higher Qts speakers are better suited for OB. Higher Qt also equates to lower price.

I'm currently using newform research speakers and wish to experiment replacing the bass section with a 15" in open baffle configuration.

Crossover is 1KHz (which is higher than all designs I've seen for a 15" driver) which I plan to implement as an active crossover and separate amp for the woofers (so one amp for the ribbons, one amp for the woofers crossovered at 1K and gain adjusted)

The idea is to have the woofers behind the ribbons.

The eminence alpha 15A and goldwood 215-40 seems to be good choices with frequency response up to 2.5K or so. (I will use them up to 1KHz)

It seems counter-intuitive that these low priced woofers can be used in OB configuration and even matched with a high-end ribbon like newform, but from the stuff I've been reading, this seems feasible.

Any thoughts from more experienced builders out there? Thanks in advance...

I'm certainly no expert but I don't know of any ribbons that will cross that low.
But I do know of a couple of projects that are similar to what you are trying to achieve. Both are by M. J. King and one uses the Eminence woofer and the other uses a Goldwood. As an added benefit both links have a lot of useful information.

Thanks for the links. The newform research ribbons do go down that low. They are 4 ft long, 50 lb each.
