    Default DIY event class question

I hope this is the correct forum for this question.

I'm considering building a set of speakers for one of the DIY speaker builder events that is self-amplified with the Sure modules that parts express is selling.

My question is are they allowed in competition and, if so, how would the speakers be classified?

I'll reserve my other questions until after this one is answered. Thank you for your help.

You would have to add in the cost of the amplifier modules and power suppy, along with any other electronics you add. This is on top of passive or active electronics and the drivers and passive xover parts.
0-150, 300-500, 500-750, 750+unlimited I think were the ranges of entrance. Mind you, this is retail selling cost, not what would be discounted or on sale, as in regular price.

You might want to ask DougP, because this may also automatically have to be entered in the Unlimited category. Of that I am unsure.

Each event has their own set of Class distinctions.

What competition are you asking about?

I'm retired in California but I visit my grandkids in Indiana during the summer. Maybe a midwest event?

So the cost ranges are the sum of the drivers used (PE regular cost, not MSRP), plus crossover component price? What about misc. stuff like T-nuts, sound absorption, terminal cups etc.? I certainly hope it doesn't include MDF as I'm killing a couple of small trees with my latest build

Nothing but drivers and crossover parts, my friend. Use the price the source quotes, whether PE, Madisound, etc. Don't factor in sound dampening, connectors, t-nuts, or any other material....just the stuff that makes the sound.

Have fun and go easy on the lumber!
