It used to only be that way, and i prefer that, but am lazy to click it everytime I browse.

There are a few things I am starting to dislike...

The "Clearance Center" design is still a joke. Why can't they implement 8 or 9 major categories like they used to have? As it is, (in the web version) you click on "Video Cables", and you get video cables but you go back and BAM, you have to scroll through their 5,287 categories again. Plus, weird stuff shows up.
The shopping cart needs an "Empty Cart" button.

The column listing would be nice - if they had a "date added" sort feature. Otherwise, it takes a long time to scan for new items.

Just click the "Grid View". I always had grid view sellected and yeah, it was strange, I noticed that when I was on the site the other day somehow it had switched back to the single column on it's own so I had to click "Grid View" again.

    +1

the grid view changing to list view thing seems to be happening when you change the sort order of your results/category. at least for me, anyway.

The online catalog is essentially free because that's how the catalog is built. It just requires hosting the viewer, but there are no maintenance costs except for linking images. Killing two birds with one stone. Developing the catalog/flyer and the web pages separately is duplicating costs, and probably sizable ones at that.
