    Default Suggestion to board .

There have recently been some VERY good blogs and articles on several aspects of speaker building, but there is nowhere that links to these can be easily accessed by newbies, (and not so newbies).

I propose a sticky or something where a list of links to these blogs can be put. To stop it getting out of hand, the Mods could be the only one to access the page to add links.. or something like that.

I know the "resources" page exists, but I'm just wondering if these blogs belong there or if they should be put in their own section.

This is like the fifth time I've seen a request for stickies. The mods never reply, much less actually create a sticky. Good luck...

I created a thread list of links to a lot of the DIY designs out there, designs that certainly lead to a lot of business for PE, and they refused to sticky it.

    So good luck with that!

Thumbs up Re: Suggestion to board .

It's a very good ideal... PE could even decide what posts are allowed, and remove anything that proved unreliable.

Default Gathering info for Speaker Building Super Thread

As I mentioned before, there are some seriously good blogs on speaker building floating about.

How about a group of you guys over there get together, put these blogs together, and PUBLISH it.

Publish doesn't necessarly mean in hard format, btw.

Editor.. I would vote for Paul or Wolfy... "The PE collaborative speaker design compendium." !!

    Andy -

Had that as well as other combined collaborative work in mind for several of these Guys years back.

I have Talents I'd hoped I could integrate with theirs and be a part of the whole vision.

Didn't realize until about a year back that Pauls site which I found by accident not even realizing he was Paul from P.E. was the most excellent 'newbee' site I'd ever encountered. Wrote him an e-mail suggesting pretty much as you that he had incredible talents.

Did same with Wolf a few times but in one of his more recent posts after much prodding from others with same thoughts I've had regards his talents he stated he feared if He ever did anything Commercial he'd lose his Hobby interest as well as the Joy it gives him. A Wise statement from a Young Man but He shared with me a couple times he has 'Secret Powers'. I've realized this is true.

Excellent post and of late as bad as economy is here I can see tons of possibilities amongst many members here to collaborate on something financially beneficial if they chose to move in that direction. P.E. has likely the most open non biased Administrative Policy I've encountered and I have many interests and am a member of many forums.

A Blog started amongst these talents if they couldn't feel 'conscience free' by inputting financial gain into the plan would benefit more people than you can count . Problem is such endeavors are extremely time consuming.

People need to make a living. People need free time.

I studied for 5 years between 75-79 to make a smooth transition from employment to self employment. I believed I had it all factored. I was wrong and when I made my move it cost me my Family in a Divorce 2 years later because of money.

There are 100 guys on this Forum tonight I'd like ton P.M. just because of their brains and proven Good Heart. There are 10 I'm behind on in P.M.'s.

What a Generation we live in! So much information available that seems to fast track us to everything and despite such creates so little time.

I'd love to see these guys here profit by doing as you suggest , Hope they have their Ears open, but more than anything hope they are Wise enough to not spread themselves too thin.

I've been wanting to e-mail you with questions regards your stuff for 1.5 years.

Addictions are expensive. They cost time.

    That's Priceless.

What kind of format were you thinking? PDF?

At this point, I'm in the same boat as you. My information is simply available as a website.

I have toyed with the idea of writing a complete book--my wife even encourages me. But it'd take some real time to put together.

I don't know if it's fiscally prudent to publish a hard format of such a book (considering that some the best resources, like Speakerbuilding 201 and Testing Loudspeakers, are special-order items) But at this point in my life, I'm not in it for the money. So I wouldn't mind just publishing it as a free, downloadable book.

Recently, I've been reading a book on wood finishing that is actually a compilation of articles from Fine Woodworking magazine. So every article is, essentially, a different author. But it's still got quite a lot of information, even though it's not a soup-to-nuts book. So, such a compilation of speaker building and design articles might be a good idea.

The toughest thing, I think, would be making all the various authors happy. Some people are very particular about the "look and feel" of their websites, and also want control over who sees it and when.

We are currently looking into this as it helps take care of the many questions a new member might have. I'm thinking a simple sticky with links to the various articles should suffice, but would like input.

    Thanks,
    Mike

Having frequently looked up Wolf's tips blogs while working with Jeff's simming tools I'd recommend linking to those as well as linking to Paul's FAQ pages on his web site. Providing links to some of the tools would be useful as well (Jeff's page, Unibox, and winisd immediately come to mind)

Perhaps a bit of narrative on the content of the links, and/or topics, (box construction, Xover design, finishing, ...)

Or a some kind of skill level rating (complete noob, done a couple, good at it, self appointed expert...)

If you will link in off site stuff, I'm sure we can all live with the usual legal disclaimers and 404 errors.
