some guidelines for "what" to build
I finally discovered this sticky thread, after being away from the board for awhile. All looks like pretty darn useful info, but it seems to be focused on "how" to build speakers. I thought I would add in a reference to an old post of mine that has surfaced from time to time that talks about "what" to build, depending on where the speaker needs to be located and what it is supposed to do, etc. It is aimed at people trying to come up with their own speaker design. It is not complete, and doesn't go in to detail about how to make the decisions, but it lays out an approach that I find useful. In case others would also this line of thinking, I am posting a link to it below, in this thread about speaker building info.
This link also references an earlier post in the thread made by Wolf, where he lists some good points as well:

I had to find the updated link. Apparently the older one expired.

Updated on 11/17/10 to include a subwoofer section. The two links look lonely though. Thoughts?

Assuming Collo wouldn't mind I'd include his web page. Its got a ton of great DIY sub reference material.

I'm opening this thread back up to take suggestions for edits and entries. I'll leave it open for two weeks, so hopefully you guys will notice and get your opinions in!

+1 needs to go under testing and measuring. Too much work went into it for it not to be included somewhere. Thanks again rpb and Ryan

Thanks killa, but 95% of the work was rbp. Just wanna give credit where it's due.

Has the link to this changed again?

From what I am told, this was a webpage maintained by Bob Stout, and he passed away in the not too distant past. I think it's completely gone now, and it was actually NLA about 2-3 weeks after I posted the updated webpage.
I have not regoogled to try and find it, but the wayback machine may be able to let you look at a lot of it.

Maybe a link to a cut list program, for under woodworking?
Such as http://maxcut.co.za/newversion/

Re: The Speaker Building Bible - Thread opened for edits/input.
This is an amazingly helpful thread!
May I link to it from a post in my own DIY forum?
I've already put up a link to your fabulous webshop, of course!

Re: The Speaker Building Bible - Thread opened for edits/input.
I encourage any and all to link to this! Thanks, of course, for asking.

Re: The Speaker Building Bible - Thread opened for edits/input.
Recent updates have been added to include a link to HOLM, the guide from Ryan and rpb, and the wood board optimizer.
Any others?

Re: The Speaker Building Bible - Thread opened for edits/input.
I am not familiar with MaxCut, but from a quick look at their web page it looks similar to Cut List, which I have used and like. Perhaps you could add a link for Cut List along side the MaxCut?

Start to finish build thread for those starting out is giving a 404 error.

I'll take a look at it in the morning. Thanks for the heads-up!

Re: The Speaker Building Bible - Thread opened for edits/input.
How about links to places with FRD and ZMA files for various drivers.
Here's one:
http://www.rjbaudio.com/Audiofiles/D...D%20files.html
Here's another:
http://www.partsexpress.com/pdf/cliotxtfiles.zip
It would be great if PE would test all the drivers they sell and make the FRD and ZMA files available. (Even if PE limited availability of the files to people who bought the drivers from PE -- That would give PE a leg up on competitors.)

One more thing: The link to optimizing crossovers to drivers gives a 404 error.
