Default OS MTMs... a plan... finally!!

    Completed December 2010:

    The build begins:

Been chomping at the bit to get these going.. next weekend looks like a good time to start. Highs in the mid to upper 60s.. perfect.

I ditched the front slot port idea.. didn't like how big the final dimensions were. These are 7" deep, 8" wide and 15-1/2 tall. More manageable on the desk.

Ha.. Not so much, David.. But thank you. Drawing it out to this level definitely keeps me from goofing it up come saw time.

Oh, shut up. I hate you and your perfect speakers.....

Seriously, I have no doubt whatsoever that they'll be stellar, as usual. Keep us posted!

I'm with these guys. Those drawings are incredible. You use Visio, you say? Would you mind sending me one of your files, just so I can see what one of these looks like?

Can do, Paul. Thanks for all the comments guys. Visio's kinda grown on me over the last couple of years. I hadn't used it at all until I started working here at BAFCO. The guy that had done the first couple of electrical drawings had done them in Visio... Poorly. I came from an electrical contractor...and was used to seeing drawings of a different caliber..I never drew any of them though. So when I started here, I picked up the visio ball and ran with it for line diagrams and the like. Only in the last few years have I attempted to draw assemblies. I'd love to be descent in autocad and solid works...time to learn either has eluded me though.

    Talking And we're off!!

Got quite a bit done today considering the late afternoon start. Baffles are cut less the round overs, braces and end caps are all cut. Tomorrow I'll be digging in on the front and rear panels. To all you cats with access to CNCs... you are the envy of many!

When a man can do work like that he doesn't need a cnc. A man with those router skills is the envy of everyone.

Kind words. Thank you... envy the back pain as well?

I'm stepping into the world of Picasa.. never hosted pics to anything but tinypic.. just because I tried it a while back and never looked for anything else. Now they're doing this anti-spambot thing and making the guest do word verifications.. these are ridiculous words. Tonight's word combo was "unieron Paffion".. whatever that is. I did at least manage to get an album started.

Here's a pic of the crossovers I got done several weeks ago:

One thing I did like about tinypic is the sizing for web pages option at the time of upload. Gonna have to play around with Picasa and see if I can do the same thing there. I can't stand threads with ginormous pics.. this is about as large as I like to go.

I got the rest of the kit cut out tonight.. stacked up in a box. Not much to see though. First couple of pieces are gluing up on the bench. Woodcraft is out of the 3mm Birch Ply I used on the previous OS project, and according to the dude at the counter, they never carried it! So.. I've resorted to ordering some online. Was a much better price anyway. I haven't purchased anything from Tower Hobbies since I gave up my RC-10 fetish years ago; seems like they still have everything.

I've been using picasa for a while, ever since somebody said one of my image shack links gave them a porn popup. Picasa is quite nice. When you view an image you'll see "link to image" on the right, click that, choose "image only" and then there is a drop down box with 3 or 4 size selections for the link, something like 200, 400 or 800. This is quite nice because it means you get to keep the original image but link different sizes. I think there is also a "resize to web size on upload, which I use to shrink my 10 megapixel images down to 1600x1200, still large but much more useable on the web, and they can be shrunken smaller if you choose.

Lookin very good. What are you doing the sides in? Hardboard?

I've considered doing something like this but the sides in fiberglass just to see what its like, make something light and try glass for the first time...

Same as last time; 3 layers of 3mm Birch plywood. Worked so well last time, figured there's no reason to change things up. Though I did consider trying a dozen or so layers of heavy cardboard.. might have to try that on the side; see how it works.
