I've used a plastic variety from Woodcraft that are about the sae in cost, but those are metal and won't break on you. One of mine have already. I'll be checking those out to replace them as they fail.

I think its depends on your box construction method. My overall impression is that they are not quite as useful as they might appear. On the other hand, they do come in handy for assorted woodworking projects, and the price is very good. I would say, get them.

Not true! I've used them on B-u-t-t joints too. The rotating pivots rest right on the seam for a tight fit.

Ok then I will get them, I have a 10% coupon that expires today.
The main reason I was looking at them was for building a some smaller desktop speakers with an angled baffle but I would use them for regular builds also.

You can accomplish much of the same functionality with some plain old ratchet web/band clamps and some scrap pieces. Indispensable, tricky to get set up, but can be had for about $5.

Thanks,

I've got two different versions. I don't build a lot of boxes and liked the first set, but have still only used it a few times. It works nicely.
I picked up a second one on sale with other stuff. I doubt I'll use it. The band is thin so much to the point that the plastic corner pieces keep falling off as I try to position them. The band rolls over and falls out of the corner piece.
My advice is be sure to get one that doesn't use a thin, floppy band.
Looking at that MLCS clamp, I can't see how it could fail. The Harbor Freight one, however, looks like my cheaper on in the band, but the clamp is, to me, nearly useless. It doesn't have a threaded tightener. I wouldn't want a ratchet.
I have 4 of those clamps and while they are no where near as handy as I had hoped I love them. They aren't as many applications as I had imagined but building square Boxes is their specailty.
