    Default RS100 vs B4N for PC/Desktop system?

With the sale price of rthe RS100, i'm trying to find a better value for a nearfield PC lostening system and i simply can't. The closest i can find is the Hivi B4N and Paul C's OS mtm. Granted the B4N does dig deeper but i can and will fill the lower octaves with a sub so concentrating on the midrange i'd like to hear what you guy think is the better driver?

What about the ND-105? Were you talking full range? There are a couple of TB driver that are supposed to be good.

I've not used either of the drivers but from the report of others and the close-out of the RS100S, it has to be a great value. (I don't consider the RS100S-8 to be a viable full range driver given the dips and peaks.)

I use a full range driver that was a little more expensive but I don't use a tweeter or any filters. It was simple and less expensive than a TM. If I were to build another FR, I'd probably go with the Fountek FR88 or FR89. The filters would be simpler than the RS100S. (Note: the new RS100-8 appears to be a simpler FR implementation than the other 3.)

I used a dual-chamber reflex design to add extension into the lower octaves while controlling excursion. This would help on either of these drivers. Wolf's 3CR take it a step further.

If I were to do a value TM, I would go for the RS125S over the RS100S. It does everything necessary while providing greater lower extension in a reasonably sized enclosure.

Thanx HB, i was thinkung along the same lines for value and performance. There's a Jkim TMM using a pair of the RS100's that would fit quite nicely on my desktop with a sealed F3 of 77hz so perfect for a sub. I don't think i'll even have to HP the mains as in 5L a pair of RS100's stay below xmax all the way to the bottom at nearly 90db in the nearfield so more than enough for my application.

FWIW, I just finished a pair of OS MTMs. I think midrange is their strong point. Small boxes, inexpensive drivers, elegantly simple crossover. Put it together and you get a build that is just plain great to hear. I was comparing my build to some Vienna Acoustics Haydn's. About 15 minutes into the comparison I realized we had quit listening to the speakers and were just enjoying the music from the OS MTMs.

If you can cross to a sub, the M4N has a really great midrange. But it's really more of a "mid." I wouldn't use it below 80 Hz if I could help it.

If you're always sitting on-axis, you could also try a full-ranger. Lots of good ones available nowadays.

Or, there's the OSMTM. Always a good choice.

Unless you physically pack the snot out of the vented enclosure it resides in.

    Otherwise- I agree with you.

Thanx Paul.....i was tempted to use the RS100 as a full ranger, and truthfully still am but given the cost of the RS100(s) i think i'll use the savings for some Vifa tweetes and XO components......The OSMTM has gotten some pretty rave reviews from builders which i think i would attribute more to your voicing than the drivers themselves. Wanna take a stab at an RS100 MTM?
