    Default 2-Way Desktop NHT/Vifa Build

Charlie Laub designed these 2-Way desktop speakers, featuring a 5.25" NHT 081 woofer made by Peerless available here and a Vifa DQ25SC16-04, 1" Titanium Dome Tweeter, available here.

Jeff B designed the crossover. Mark K's entry is documented here. Wolf was kind enough to provide his entry later in this thread.

    The development thread is here.

I am making a pair of these bad boys for a friend's son.
I'll call these the MCs, in honor of the recipient.

    The first cut.

All panels are cut to size, except the front baffles and backs are slightly oversized, so I can trim them to size after assembly.

The carcass has been glued and clamped.

Are you going to make them with the original sealed box design? I had been thinking about a vented pair for low end.

Ported is not a bad idea. These are sealed. I will watch for your build. It should be interesting.

Clamps off and glue squeeze-out sanded.

Front and back glued and clamped.

I built four pair of these, using the buyout cabs. I am sure you will like the sound.

You mean Jeff B. designed the xover. Mark just picked his entry.

And just in case you wanted to try it out, I had a series xover in the entries too.

Just don't forget the extra 1.5uF cap (not on the schematic) across the woofer to limit the top-end ripple.

    Thanks for the correction, Wolf.
And yes, I definitely want to try your crossover entry.

I was just curious as to what exactly the red c clamps were doing in this photo?

    Good eye!

All pieces were cut from 3/4" stock--except the tops and bottoms, because I ran out of 3/4" stock. Since the tops and bottoms are small, I probably could have gotten away with 1/2" stock, but I wanted to be certain that I had sufficient panel stiffness for even these small pieces. So, I glued some 1/4" stock onto some 1/2" stock to get the full 3/4" thickness and the red C-clamps held the two together until the glue dried.

Is this referring to the series crossover shown in the same post?

The flush cut router bit always amazes me with the perfect corners it produces. Your pic where you stopped halfway really captures why they are worth their weight in silver cables. I think I have the same bit with the double bearing if yours is the Bosch bit.
Of course your router table and insert makes my Woodpecker table look cheap (which it was). I used the same cabinet pulls on my bathroom remodels. I didn't realize you rich people bought them for their shop. Very nice.

Yup, Jeff should get the credit for the xover. I just optimized it a bit based on the measurements. It really is a nice sounding unit and a bargain if you can get the parts and build the cabs. Which, you seem to be doing very well...

PS what camera are you using and did you process those images? They are quite good.
