Re: dayton RS180-4 help
The PE Woofer Selection Guide shows 1.33ft3 at 33 Hz. Try modeling in one of the free box modeling programs to see what a smaller box will look like. Playing with the tuning may bring down the typical "hump" in the upper bass from using a smaller than optimum box.

You can pick a woofer, then model a box it will work in, OR, if you have a predetermined box size, you can search for a woofer that will work well in it, but you can't arbitrarily pick any woofer you want and any box you want and make them play together.

Re: dayton RS180-4 help
I happen to have winisd running the RS180-4 right now and as noted by Jim, in a larger ~ 1.5 cf box it goes amazing low, into the 30's.. And its still very respectable in a 1 cf ( which is what I'm looking to use it in).
In a .5 cf a very slight hump starts to emerge around 90-100 and a higher rolloff (f3 ~ 50) but it should be tuned to something more like 32 Hz. 40 makes the hump higher and bigger (If tuned too high it will tend to sound boomier.

Understood. The OP had picked a woofer AND a box size. Since the Guide showed the optimum box was larger than he wanted, I was just suggesting he needs to model it to see if it will work. By the way, the difference in the optimum box size listed for the 4 and 8 ohm versions of that woofer are HUGE. Makes me wonder if there's something off in the T/S data for one of them.

mr. roemer,my post implied that i am looking to make a decision on which driver to use in my project.i havent built the box yet.i havent bought the speakers yet. and i certainly have nothing chiseled in stone. just wanting a little help making a decision i'll be happy with, such as that i recieved from JimHRB and jeff_free69.thank you gentlemen very much.BTW i realize that my name states ''new member'' beneath it,but you'd have to go back- i've forgotten how many years- to see my other posts. i am not a newbee at this hobby by far.
