Default (IB) Battle of the 8” buyout subs... need a decision

First off I realize 299-246 is NLA (unless you already have a pair)

I was hoping to get some input regarding these 2 8” subs in an IB setup. I don’t have any specific questions except for which one would be “better” (I know that is a wide open question w/o being more specific).

I understand that there is some confusion as to whether 299-094’s Xmax (one way) is 5mm or 12mm, let’s assume it’s 12mm for this case.

So in an IB app, w/ eq as an option and employed up to 200 Hz (max), is there a clear winner?

The alleged Adire sub isn't advertised as 24mm of Xmax, either. It was advertised as 24mm p-p, which means 12mm. In any event, without knowing the method with which the Xmax parameter was derived (especially on an underhung driver), Xmax specifications are not really useful.

I wish there is some information about the upper end response as well. If it is indeed flat to 2000 hz then it will be a good candidate for replacing an 8-inch vintage acoustic suspension woofer(like AR 4,6,7 and 18), becasue its foam surround is about to fall off or is already rotten. At roughly the same price of a pair foams you get a pair of nice woofer like this. BTW, the frange of this woofer is the same as the AR 8-inch woofer as well as the 8-inch from EPI, Advent and many others

There is absolutely no way a $17, 8" driver has 24mm of Xmax!!! The spider would need to be wider than the driver diameter!

As JR pointed out (quoted below) I was mistanken when I said 24mm Xmax, I should have said 12mm (that's what I get for posting when I should have gone to bed).

Any posts after JR's seem mostly centered on topics that are discussed more in depth in this thread (re Xmax you really only need to read the 1st page):

So back to my original question... btw the two mentioned which is a better candidate for IB use?
    Thanks,
    Aaron

Aaron, I would personally go with the Adire (Adire clone?) unit.

299-094. I think the jury is still out if this is actually an Adire driver or not. I think it probably is.

Thanks! I'd need to take it apart to confirm it was, in fact, and XBL woofer. Need to probe the pole and the top plate stack to confirm gaps in there...

If you want, I'd buy it from you (full price you paid, plus shipping) and you could send it to me, I'll disassemble, and confirm for everyone.

Well thats a plan
