I have looked through all of the builds of the Tritrix I could find, and can't seem to find a good shot of the rear of the Tritrix once its been finished. Are people veneering the back pieces, wrapping around the bottom of the TL opening? Or just painting those black? Or what? I am just curious, as the rear looks a little "unfinished" to me. Thanks!
I did veneer the back of this pair of Tritrix TLs.
I am getting ready to build another set and am probably going to paint the rears black on this set. I did the veneer prior to assembly and it took a lot of time and patience to get it right.
I painted the rears before gluing up the enclosures, used a flat black spay paint. I'd thought about veneering the cabinets, with the painted rear, I ended up painting the entire cabinet except the back with a latex interior paint. They came out okay but one of these days I'll probably refinish or build new cabinets.
How odd you would post this.. I went through this exact dilemma earlier today!! I ended up just veneering the top, sides, and front. Painted the back and bottom flat black and am planning to shoot the finish clear over all (including painted areas) to even it out. It turned out great. I'm posting a photo (literally taken an hour ago) of the finish which is cherry veneer with ebony stain. Good Luck!
the THOUGHT of ebony stain on cherry veneer does not SOUND attractive at all to me but.......those are buetiful! please post some pictures of them after you clear coat them.

I painted the wall of the TL and the inside portion of the back, but veneered the rest of the back. I think it turned out nicely; although, this approach definitely wasted some veneer (I made the back out of one piece of veneer and then trimmed out the middle).

This is the proper way to do it in my eyes.... gorgeous cab's, all around, though I most enjoy the contrast in Jerry's....

Arlis.. I had the same thought originally.. Then I just searched "stains on cherry" on google images and up popped a floor that someone had done this to. I'm hoping the clear pops the grain.. after 1 coat, hasn't popped it much, but I plan to put 4-5 coats on over the next couple days. I will post photos!
The veneer on the back looks awesome! I just don't have the patience right now.. I am finishing these, Overnight sensations, and tritrix center and mt's and quite honestly am getting burnt out quickly! I'm very impatient and don't like these projects lingering.. basically, shooting a coat of paint, stain, or finish, then running in to work on XO's.. Ready for it all to be done!!

My first thoughts too. I prefer cherry natural with an oil finish. But looking at the pictures posted, the result looks kind of like ebony veneer, and no one can afford (or even find) ebony veneer.
