Replacement woofer for CS Ensemble IV
My son managed to melt the coil on the woofer of an old Cambridge Soundworks Ensemble IV system. All I know about the driver is that is is 5.25", 8-ohm, Dual voice coil.
Couldn't find any 5.25" DVC woofers at PE. Any suggestions?
Thanks

Does he just have a stereo pair, or the HT setup?
Is it 8 ohms/coil, with the coils in parallel for a 4 ohm receiver load?
You could maybe tell by measuring one of the remaining good woofers.
An ND140 might work, but we need more info, AND it'd be best to replace them in stereo pairs.

Re: Replacement woofer for CS Ensemble IV
It is the stereo pair system but the driver that melted was the solo woofer so there is no other driver to compare it to. All I can tell you is that the sub woofer enclosure says 8 ohms on it. It does not have an amp in it, so it uses the receiver's L & R speaker outputs and has a filter to isolate the signal for the woofer. It also has L & R outputs for the 2 satellites. Impedance across both coils on the bad driver reads infinite.

So, you probably NEED a 5.25" driver that has a pair of 8 ohm voice coils. Don't know of any.
Why not just build a new, small, sub? You could build one using something like the Dayton ND140-8 and a small plate amp (like PE's 25 watter).

Re: Replacement woofer for CS Ensemble IV
Thanks for the replies. I figured my only option was to replace it with a powered sub but thought I'd first look into the possibility of replacing just the driver. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't overlooking anything.
Thanks again
