    Cool Inline Passive Crossover.

Ok I just built my first set of Inline Passive Crossovers. Mainly because I blew up my 2.1 amp by accident when I built a new case for it .
So now I'm substituting a car amp from Alpine which is about 7.5 watts by four channels. I'm using three channels and built the Inline to make it a 2.1.

I was a little weary of how it was going to turn out. First I bought to small of circuit boards for them to fit on so I had to squeeze them on it. I just used caps and resistors I had laying around to make them was my next problem. After doing the math and figuring out what I needed. I have to say they turned out quite well. At least the sound of them did.

I know it's not pretty but I had to make sure everything is working correctly before going all out.

I want to build some active crossovers but I'm not sure on what op amps to use? If anyone has suggestions I would appreciate them.
    Thanks ,
    JB

FWIW- using passive line-level xovers requires a connection that is very short to the inputs of the amplifier to lessen the effect of parasitic capacitance in the wires to the input. Very little will change your xover freq by a wide margin.

Hi Wolf, can you expand on this or give a link to learn more? This is a new concept for me and I'd like to read up.

I wasn't to worried about the crossover frequencies being dead on , on this one. It was more just trying to see how well they worked. Plus it was an easy way to get some sound back for my computer speakers.
My main question is about building some active crossovers. I was asking if anyone had used a particular op-amp in their design or have a preference ?
I know that a few people on here make their own make active crossovers and was wanting to try and make one. I know how to design my own power supply at least .

Cowtown if you have PCD , then you can just go to the other calculators and it will do the calculations for you. All you need to enter is the frequencies you want to use, the input impedance and your first leg of impedance.
    Thanks ,

I would be a little concerned using the XO pictured. It looks like you put a few 1/2 watt resistors in series. You may not have enough power handling capacity in them.

Yea it's a Line level crossover it's not a passive crossover. Thanks for the concern though. If it was a passive crossover I would have turned those little resistors into little snap pops.

It'a also passive, so it's a passive-line-level xover. It isn't active, so therefore it's passive.
